Otis Weah rushed for a career-high three touchdowns and North Dakota defeated Idaho State 35-14 on Saturday in a season opener. North Dakota scored first and led the rest of the way after Hayden Galvin returned an interception to the Idaho State 32 that set up Weah's 1-yard score less than three minutes into the game. The Fighting Hawks made it 10-0 on the first of two Adam Stage field goals which came after turning back the Bengals on four rushes from the North Dakota 1. Idaho got on the scoreboard on with 18 seconds left in the first half when Malakai Rango scored from the 1.North Dakota extended its lead to 24-7 in the third quarter when Tommy Schuster found Adam Zavalney alone at the goal line for a 22-yard score and Weah added a 15-yard TD two plays after Ray Hass picked off a Tyler Vander Waal pass at the Idaho State 34. Weah finished with 114 yards on 22 carries, his third career 100-yard game. Schuster was 14-of-18 passing for 183 yards and a TD. Vander Waal threw for 229 yards but was just 19 of 43 with three interceptions. Otis Weah ran for 132 of his career-high 163 yards after halftime and had both of his TD runs in the third quarter to help North Dakota beat South Dakota 21-10 on Thursday night. North Dakota, No. 4 in the FCS Top 25, has its first 3-0 start to a season since 2008, beating FCS-ranked teams in all three games. The No. 20 Coyotes (1-1) drove to the North Dakota 2 and opened the scoring with a field goal in the first five minutes. About five minutes later, Weah fumbled into the end zone and South Dakota’ s Jacob Matthew recovered it for a touchback. But South Dakota struggled to get the ball back past midfield and the Fighting Hawks took a 21-3 lead after Quincy Vaughn threw his first TD pass of his career in the second quarter and Weah scored twice in t he third. Otis Weah had a 40-yard TD run in the fourth quarter and North Dakota rallied for a 28-17 upset over South Dakota State 28-17 on Saturday. Weah broke a couple of tackles in the backfield and cut to an open lane up the right sideline. South Dakota State's Isaiah Stalbird punched the ball out at the 7, but it bounced back up into Weah's path and he recovered it just before he plunged into the end zone to cap the scoring with 6:53 left in the game. The Fighting Hawks (2-0, 2-0 Missouri Valley Football Conf erence) took the momentum in the third quarter when the defense forced a three-and-out and the special teams blocked the punt on fourth down. Tommy Schuster connected with Garett Maag for a 16-yard TD pass two plays later to give North Dakota its first l ead of the game at 21-17. Schuster passed for 184 yards and a touchdown, and Maag had 87 yards and a touchdown on five catches. Weah ran 17 times for 88 yards and two scores. - North Dakota/AP College Football
