Air Force's football rivalries with Colorado State and Wyoming will remain intact under future Mountain West schedules in the post-division era. The conference announced opponents for the 2023-2025 seasons on Thursday, revealing what the schedule structu re will be when the league scraps the division format following the 2022 season. For the Falcons, this will mean playing the Rams and Cowboys annually and shuffling the deck among the other nine teams.In the three-year window revealed, the Falcons play every other team twice, once each at home and on the road. This replaces the division format, which saw Air Force face its Mountain Division opponents (Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming) each season and play teams from the other side in a two-years-on, two-years-off cycle. - Colorado Springs Gazette

Air Force opens the 2022 season vs. Northern Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 3, at Falcon Stadium and the kickoff time has been set for 11 a.m. MT. Television coverage is to be announced, but the kickoff time will not be affected. The 2022 home schedule features seven home games and six kickoff times are set. The Falcons host Colorado, Sept. 10, at 1:30 p.m., followed by Nevada on Friday, Sept. 23, at 6 p.m. Navy comes to Falcon Stadium to begin the race for the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. B oise State visits the Academy, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m. and New Mexico, Nov. 12, at 1:30 p.m. The Falcons close out the season at home vs. Colorado State, Nov. 19. An injury cut TE Kyle Patterson's 2021 season short, but he's arguably the best tight end in the MWC. Coming out of high school, he turned down offers from Alabama and four Pac-12 schools to play for the Falcons. He had 12 catches for 205 yards and two T Ds in five games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, becoming the first tight end to lead the team in receiving since 2002. - Daily Camera

Air Force football is proceeding with a plan to fully open Falcon Stadium to fans this fall, packing a place that spent the 2020 season empty except for cadets. The academy announced on Twitter that the 2021 season includes "plans for full capacity." "We will continue to monitor state and local health guidelines as we will coordinate with public health to ensure a safe fan experience for all," athletic director Nathan Pine in a statement on social media. The Falcons will host six games - Lafayette (Sept . 4), Utah State (Sept. 18), Florida Atlantic (Sept. 25), Wyoming (Oct. 9), San Diego State (Oct. 23) and UNLV (Nov. 27). The team moved its scheduled Nov. 6 home game against Army to Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, as part of the two-year Commande r's Classic. - Colorado Springs

Kyle Patterson chose Air Force knowing tight ends might not see the ball very often. In fact, that's kind of why he made the choice over offers from schools that included Alabama, Arizona and Washington. Blocking was that cool, he decided. "During high s chool that was usually what I would do," Patterson said. "Eighty percent of the time I was run blocking." Air Force is asking the sophomore to do a bit more than that. Through four games, Patterson leads the team with nine catches for 144 yards, and his touchdown at San Jose State remains the Falcons' lone touchdown reception.His nine grabs are already more than Air Force's tight ends averaged (8.25) over the past four seasons. He has shown why he has caused a rethinking of the passing distributi on with a 28-yard catch on a third-and-13 play in the first quarter of a 28-0 victory over New Mexico on Friday. Using his 6-foot-6, 245-pound frame as a starting point, he elevated above two defenders to high-point the ball and move the chains.
