  08/18/22 - SS JiAyir BrownrSr/2023, Penn State, 5-11, 203 (DS#4 SS) + More +

JiAyir Brown has established himself as the best player on Penn State's defense and one of the most impactful on the roster. He's elite in coverage, where he's one of the best in the country at tracking the ball in the air and hauling in interceptions. He has the size and athleticism to stay with opponents in man coverage on top of playing the ball so well when it's up for grabs. Brown can defend the run too, stepping into the box and stopping running backs in their tracks with his strength and tackling ability.

The senior safety can play all over the defensive backfield but will be the undisputed leader in the backend at safety. He's not just the best safety on the roster by a wide margin - he might also be the best safety in the country. Even though Brown is the consensus choice here, there are still plenty of other talented players on defense for Penn State that could have a major impact. Cornerback Joey Porter Jr., linebacker Curtis Jacobs, defensive end Adisa Isaac and defensive tackle PJ Mustipher will help lead what could be one of the best defenses in the country. - Centre Times

  07/20/22 - SS JiAyir BrownrSr/2023, Penn State, 5-11, 203 (DS#4 SS) + More +

JiAyir Brown is locked in as a starter after proving last season he was one of the best safeties in the country alongside Brisker, but the position next to him could be up for grabs. The benefit of having Brown is that the leadership aspects of the position will be taken care of already, allowing whoever replaces Brisker to take on less of that responsibility this season. There are several options to replace Brisker, but Wheatley's breakout spring should put him in good position to start alongside Brown. While Wheatley will draw more intrigue because of his youth and upside, it's the veteran who should make the most impact this season.

Brown is one of the most versatile safeties in the country and established that in a major way alongside Brisker last season. He's excellent in coverage and has shown the ability to be a major asset whether he's playing as a deep safety or stepping up and playing man coverage. The senior was tied for first in the country in 2021 with six interceptions, showing the type of elite ball skills that allow him to be a game changer in the secondary. He relies on his instincts and high football IQ when he drops into zone, watching the play unfold and seeing where the quarterback is passing before the ball even comes out. When asked to play man, he's physical and can stay with receivers at a proficient level for a safety, even if he isn't elite in that regard. - Centre Times

  05/05/22 - SS JiAyir BrownrSr/2023, Penn State, 5-11, 203 (DS#4 SS) + More +

Ji'Ayir Brown is one of the top potential prospects for Penn State next season. He chose to return for an extra year of eligibility when he would've been one of the top safeties drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. He's excellent playing the deep third of the field in coverage, leading the nation in interceptions with six, but can also play man against slot receivers. Brown is one of the most well-rounded safety prospects in the country heading into the 2022 season. - Tribune Review
