2022 ALL-BIG SKY FIRST TEAM: OLB Patrick O'Connell (UM),...Linebacker Patrick O'Connell became a two-time first-team pick after leading the league in both sacks and tackles for loss despite missing the bulk of three games this season with injury. The NFL prospect from Kalispell is tied with Andy Petek for the seventh-most career tackles for loss in program history with 44 this week and is a half-sack behind Petek at No. 6 on the sack list. - Montana Football

SEPT 19 BIG SKY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Patrick O'Connell (Montana),...Montana's Patrick O'Connell was selected as the Big Sky Football Defensive Player of the Week after a monster day for the Grizzly defense in a 49-14 win. O'Connell finished the game with nine tackles, three for loss, and had 2.5 sacks on the day. The Buck Buchanan Award hopeful also forced a fumble on his first sack of the day which resulted in a scoop and score by fellow Grizzly Kale Edwards. 2021 ALL-BIG SKY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): OLB Patrick O'Connell, Montana,...O'Connell, who was named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week on Monday in addition to being named a finalist for the Buchanan Award, leads the Big Sky in sacks as a juni or and enters the postseason third in the FCS total sacks as well. The native of Kalispell earned first-team All-Big Sky honors alongside Ford Tuesday after leading the Big Sky total sacks with 13, getting in on at least one in 10 of UM's 11 games to dat e. He also ranks third in the league in both tackles for loss and forced fumbles and is ranked No. 8 in the conference in total tackles. Against Montana State, he posted a game-high 11 tackles with 1.5 sacks for an MSU loss of 11 yards and one QB hurry. Following Saturday's game, he now ranks No. 10 in career sacks with 19.5 and is top-15 in career TFLs with 29. - Montana Football
