BYU wide receiver Puka Nacua will enter the NFL draft, the Timpview product announced Wednesday. Nacua, who started his collegiate career at Washington before coming home to Provo, had another year of eligibility remaining. He will play in the Senior Bow l, the top college showcase before the NFL combine, in February. "I am excited to start this new journey and fulfill this dream of mine," Nacua wrote in a message to fans he posted on social media. Nacua transferred to BYU in 2021 and since became a team captain and the program's best player. In two years, he finished with 91 catches for 1,430 yards and 11 touchdowns. In his career, including his time at Washington, he totaled more than 2,000 yards from scrimmage and 19 scores. - Salt Lake Tribune

Puka Nacua caught 14 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns, including an acrobatic catch for the go-ahead score with 1:46 remaining, Jaren Hall passed for 377 yards and BYU defeated Boise State 31-28 on Saturday night. BYU (5-5) snapped a four-game los ing streak in the final match-up of a 12-game series with neighboring Boise State. It was only the second time the Cougars won on the Broncos' famed blue turf. Boise State (6-3) saw its four-game winning streak snapped as the Broncos' nationally second-r anked defense surrendered 532 yards, a season high. Trailing 28-24 with 6:28 remaining, Hall cobbled together a nine-play, 75-yard drive that ended when Nacua made a juggling 6-yard touchdown reception on fourth down. He twisted in the air while securing control of the ball and then tapped his feet down.BYU dominated the first half on the stat sheet, but not the scoreboard as the half finished with the score knotted at 7. The Cougars passed up a chip-shot field goal on fourth-and-goal from the ha lf-foot line with one second remaining in the half. But after four combined timeouts in a game of cat-and-mouse, Lopini Katoa's dive off right tackle was stuffed by Boise State's Ezekiel Noa at the goal line. But that was a decision BYU coach Kalani Sita ke won't be scrutinized for too much after the Cougars escaped with a victory. Boise State, which mustered only 76 yards of offense in the first half, found its rhythm in the second half and turned the game into a see-saw affair. There were six lead chan ges in the second half as neither defense had much of an answer for the offensive explosion. - BYU/AP College Football

How many college football teams lost two of their top receivers, yet still have every reason to believe that the unit will be as good or better the next season? That's the situation BYU finds itself in as it prepares for the 2022 season. While it will ce rtainly miss Neil Pau'u and Samson Nacua, the rest of the group appears to be deep and dangerous. The most pressure will be on senior Gunner Romney and junior Puka Nacua, both of whom have already demonstrated they are capable of making critical plays fo r the Cougar offense."The ceiling is really high for those guys," BYU wide receivers coach Fesi Sitake said at media day in Jun. "For both of them, I know the No. 1 thing on their minds is to stay healthy the entire season. If they do, they can bo th have monster years. But we've got to take it a game at a time. They are doing their part right now, working hard lifting hard, practicing, mastering the playbook, mastering their position, everything. But the expectations are high for those guys, and I think they're both thrilled for the upcoming season." While his older brother may not be on the team any more, Puka Nacua said Samson Nacua has still been passing on advice about how to get ready for pro football. "Durability is your best ability," Puk a Nacua said his brother told him. "You have to always be available. It is a business at that point. They're investing money into what you do, so you have to make sure that your body is in the best shape it can be to go out there and do what you need to do. That is probably one of the most important things he has said." - Daily Herald

It's only about four miles from Orem High School to LaVell Edwards Stadium but that hasn't resulted in a lot of Tiger football players becoming BYU Cougars. Until now, that is. The only player from the Orem dynasty (four straight state titles in Class 4A and Class 5A) currently on the BYU roster is freshman defensive back Ethan Slade. The Cougars appear to be about to get an influx of Tiger talent (as well as a former Timpview star). The 2018 Utah Valley Football Players of the Year, superstar wide rece iver Puka Nacua, announced on his "pukaizded" Instagram account Monday evening that he and his older brother, former Thunderbird receiver Samson Nacua, are both transferring to BYU. Puka Nacua is a sophomore transferring from Washington (16 receptions, 3 19 yards, 3 TDs in two years), while Samson Nacua is a senior transferring from Utah (82 catches, 1,015 yards, 11 TDs in four years). Slade's reaction to the news on Instagram was a replay that said "LESS GO" Their older brother, Kai Nacua, was a standou t safety at BYU and now plays for the San Francisco 49ers. - Daily Herald
