2022 PRESEASON RAY GUY WATCHLIST: Ty Zentner - Kansas State,...Zentner (6-2, 200) enters the 2022 season with a 42.5-yard punting average, which would rank fourth in school history if he had seven more attempts to reach the required minimum. An Honorable Mention All-Big 12 pick last year, Zentner finished the 2021 season with a 43.7-yard average to tie for fifth in school history, and his average would have ranked second in the Big 12 had he punted eight more times to reach the required minimum. His str ong average was buoyed by 16 punts that traveled 50 or more yards, while he only had four touchbacks. Zentner, a product of Topeka, Kansas, posted a career-high five 50-plus yard punts at Oklahoma State in addition to setting a career single-game best a verage of 55.7 yards per punt at Texas Tech, which was the 12th-best average in the nation and fourth in the Big 12 during a single game in 2021. One of his punts against the Red Raiders was a 63-yarder - the second-longest of his career - which immediat ely preceded a K-State safety that swung the game in the Wildcats' favor. - Kansas State Football

It took Ty Zentner a while to get to where he is now. Growing up in Topeka, he was a multi-sport standout at Shawnee Heights High School, where he also was an all-state goalkeeper in soccer and a starter on the Thunderbirds' Class 5A state championship b asketball team his senior year. But by narrowing his focus over time, he now hopes it will lead to a professional career. That was one reason he decided to take advantage of an extra super-senior season granted by the NCAA in response to the coronavirus pandemic. "The whole time I kind of knew that I was going to be coming back regardless of what happened at the end of (last) season," Zentner said."I knew that I needed to put a better product on the field, and I had plenty of room to grow, and I knew that we had a great team coming back. "I was just very excited to have another opportunity to come back and play more football, and that's all I could ever ask for." Zentner would love an opportunity next year to continue his career in the NFL. "I t hink I have a good chance to punt on Sundays," he said. "I think I've got the leg talent for it. "Now I just need to go out there and focus on having a great season and being the best player I can be for our team, and I'm really excited about the work th at we're putting in together as special teams and as a team. I'm very confident in my preparations for the season, and I'm excited to see where the chips fall." - Topeka Capital Journal
