Georgia tightened its hold on No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll Sunday, with TCU climbing up to No. 4 and Alabama dropping all the way to No. 10. The Bulldogs had their strongest support of the season after manhandling Tennessee in a 1- 2 matchup on Saturday. Georgia received 61 of 63 first-place votes from the media panel in the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank. No. 2 Ohio State got the other first-place vote. Michigan moved up a spot to No. 3 and TCU jumped three spots to its highe st ranking since late in the 2017 season. No. 5 Tennessee fell three spots after losing on the road to the defending national champions.For the first time in the College Football Playoff era, Alabama and Clemson lost on the same day and both tumbl ed in the rankings. The Crimson Tide (7-2) fell to LSU by a point in overtime to end up at No. 10 - their worst ranking since 2015. LSU jumped eight spots to No. 7, the Tigers' best ranking since they started No. 6 in 2020. That was when they stumbled ou t of the gate a season after winning the national title. Oregon reached a season-high No. 6 and Pac-12 rivals No. 8 Southern California and No. 9 UCLA finished out the top 10. Clemson fell seven spots to a season-low No. 12 after losing to Notre Dame. Georgia took back the No. 1 spot in The Associated Press college football poll from Alabama on Sunday after being bumped out last week by the Crimson Tide, who slid to No. 3. The Bulldogs received 32 first-place votes and 1,535 points in the Top 25, pres ented by Regions Bank, to easily reclaim No. 1. They were just two points behind Alabama at No. 2 last week. Georgia thumped Auburn 42-10 on Saturday. The Tide, whose Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Bryce Young was sidelined by injury, escaped an upse t bid at home by Texas A&M. Ohio State moved up a spot to No. 2, receiving 20 first-place votes and 1,507 points.No. 3 is a season-low for Alabama, which was preseason No. 1 but fell to No. 2 after Week 2. The Tide received 11 first-place votes. T here were two notable season debuts in the Top 25: No. 24 Illinois is ranked for the first time since 2011 and James Madison is in the AP Top 25 for the first time in its program history. The Dukes are playing their first season as a member of the Sun Be lt Conference in Division I college football's highest level. Clemson overtook Michigan and moved up to No. 4 and the Wolverines fell one spot to No. 5. Tennessee moved up to No. 6, which is the best ranking for the currently undefeated Volunteers since No. 5 early in the 2005 season. Tennessee stumbled to a 5-6 and unranked finish that year. Ringo will forever be remembered by Bulldogs fans for his game-clinching p ick-6 that put a bow on Georgia's first national championship in 41 years. At 6-foot-2, Ringo is a tall cornerback with exceptionally long arms and good ball skills and speed. He had 34 tackles with eight pass breakups and two interceptions in 2021. Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame (OSHOF) and Jim Thorpe Association released today the prestigious Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Preseason Watchlist. This list includes 35 of the nation's best defensive backs, representing 10 conferences and one independent univer sity. The preseason watchlist is selected by a screening committee whose members compile a list of up to 50 players. This list is not final, and players who have outstanding seasons may be added to the Semifinalists and Finalists lists as the season prog resses. A preseason watchlist is compiled by the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame based on previous performance and preseason All-America lists.A screening committee consisting of OSHOF members monitors all defensive backs throughout the season, inclu ding watchlist players, and narrows the field to up to 15 semifinalists in October. This committee reconvenes on the Monday before Thanksgiving to select three award finalists. The three finalists are submitted to a national panel of over 250 sports writ ers, sportscasters, former players and coaches who vote to determine the winner of the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award.
