Jalen Carter and Kelee Ringo, two major cogs for Georgia football's defense this season in winning a second straight national title, didn't drag out their intentions for 2023 after Monday's 65-7 takedown of TCU. Less than three hours after the game ended , Carter posted on his Twitter account he's declaring for the NFL draft. The 6-foot-3, 300 pound junior from Apopka, Fla., is viewed as a top five overall pick by many. He had two tackles in his final game with the Bulldogs, giving him 32 in 13 gam es with 7 tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. He also had 3 sacks last season and was part of a defensive front Monday that limited TCU to a touchdown, had five sacks and 36 yards rushing. - Athens Daily Banner

Jalen Carter admitted to being a little awestruck Saturday. Not necessarily about the big game that he and the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs are getting ready to play in. Just being in California was blowing his mind a little bit. "First time ever," said Carter , an All-American defensive lineman from Florida. "Seeing the palm trees and the hills and mountains with snow on them, that's my first time seeing snow like that. It's the farthest I've been from home." Don't mistake Carter's wide-eyed gaze at the pictu resque landscape as distraction. He's fully focused on the task at hand in the College Football Playoff Championship game Monday, which is to slow No. 3 TCU's prolific offense. That didn't go so well the last time Georgia played, when the Bulldogs gave u p 467 yards and 41 points to No. 4 Ohio State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and left Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Dec. 31 with a victory by the skin of their teeth.Carter himself didn't have the greatest of games. He finished with one tackle and one p ass breakup. He spent most of the night chasing quarterback C.J. Stroud and not catching him. Finally, the Bulldogs got it done when they had to. They limited the Buckeyes to three fourth-quarter points for the comeback victory in their national semifina l. "I'd say the defense started out a little rough," Carter said during Georgia's media day at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Saturday morning. "They hit us with some explosive plays coming out. We just had to get everything together and get back c onnected and do what we worked on. Connection, resiliency, toughness, you know, our traits." Carter and the Bulldogs will have to play even better to slow quarterback Max Duggan and Horned Frogs. It's not that they're better than Ohio State, it's just th at they're different. - Atlanta Journal Constitution

Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and TCU held on to the top four spots in the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night, with Tennessee at No. 5 and LSU at No. 6. With three of the top six teams and only three weeks left until Selection Sunday, the Southeastern Conference appears well positioned to put two teams in the CFP for the second straight season and third time overall. Georgia (10-0) and LSU (8-2) have already clinched spot in the SEC title game. Tennessee (9-1) can do no better than 11-1. Ohio State (10-0) and Michigan (10-0) will finish the regular season against eachother the Saturday after Thanksgiving. No. 7 USC (9-1), the Pac-12's best and probably last hope to make the final four, is seventh. USC faces UCLA (8-2), the committ ee's 16th ranked team, on Saturday. In another key Pac-12 game on Saturday, No. 10 Utah (8-2) visits No. 12 Oregon (8-2). Alabama (8-2) is eighth, but the Crimson Tide has been eliminated from SEC championship contention and with two losses virtually eli minated from the CFP race. Clemson (9-1) moved up to ninth, the highest ranked Atlantic Coast Conference team. - AP College Football

Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, still bothered by an ankle injury that limited him against South Carolina in week three, played only one snap - at fullback - in a 39-22 win over Kent State. Coach Kirby Smart said "It's a nagging ankle injury...It' s tough for defensive linemen because you're dealing with 500-600 pounds of pressure." The 6-3, 300 pound Carter is ranked No. 3 overall by NFL Draft Scout with the next defensive tackle being Clemson's Bryan Bresee at No. 13. - Georgia Football/Frank Co oney-NFLDraftScout

Top-ranked Georgia has allowed seven points or fewer in each of its first three games of the season for the first time since 1954, according to ESPN. Georgia replaced five defenders who were NFL first-round draft picks and has shown no drop-off from the 2021 unit that led the nation in scoring defense. The Bulldogs have allowed a total of 10 points in three games. The '54 team gave up 13 in its first three games and held each of its first four opponents to seven points or less. - AP College Football
