 Jonathan Mingo, Mississippi, Player News

Ole Miss football wideout Jonathan Mingo has made it official: He's declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft. The Brandon High School product appeared in 41 games over four seasons in Oxford, making 112 receptions for 1,758 yards and 12 touchdowns. Mingo turned in by far his most prolific season in 2022, when he caught 51 balls for 861 yards and five TDs. He had one season of eligibility remaining but elected to go pro, announcing his decision in a Twitter post Monday night.

"Rebel nation, thanks for all the love and support throughout the years," Mingo wrote. "It was truly a blessing to be an Ole Miss Rebel." Mingo finished the season as Ole Miss' second-leading wide receiver behind Malik Heath, who exhausted his collegiate eligibility this season. With his two top pass catchers moving on, Lane Kiffin has already started reshaping that room using the transfer portal. - The Clarion Ledger

2022 ALL-SEC SECOND TEAM (COACHES): WR Jonathan Mingo, Ole Miss,...Mingo has hauled in 48 receptions for 808 yards and a team-high five touchdowns. The senior from Brandon, Mississippi, leads the Rebels with 38 career starts and has tallied over 1,700 receiving yards over his four years in an Ole Miss uniform. Mingo had a career day vs. Vanderbilt earlier this year. He became Ole Miss' top single-game receiver in program history following a 247-yard performance on nine catches and two scores against the Commodores. Mingo broke Elijah Moore's 2020 single-game record of 238 yards. Mingo's high-octane outing is the best single-game receiving performance this season by any wideout in the FBS and also ranks 13th in SEC history. - Ole Miss Football

OCT 10 SEC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jonathan Mingo, WR, Ole Miss,...Broke the Ole Miss single-game record for receiving yards in leading the Rebels past Vanderbilt...Hauled in nine passes, including two TDs, for 247 yards, which broke Elijah Moore's 2020 record of 238 yards also at Vanderbilt...The 247-yard performance stands as the 13th-best single-game performance in SEC history and most in the FBS this season...With 72 and 71-yard touchdown catches, he is the first Rebel receiver to record multiple TD receptions of 70 or more yards in the same game since A.J.   2022 COACHES PRESEASON ALL-SEC SECOND TEAM: WR - Jonathan Mingo, Ole Miss,...Mingo, a three-year letterwinner from Brandon, Mississippi, was sidelined over half the season in 2021 due to a broken foot in practice following the third week of the season. He tallied six starts at wide receiver last year and finished fourth on the team in receiving yards (346) and third in TD receptions (3). Mingo leads all returning receivers with 26 total starts, hauling in 61 catches for 897 yards and seven touchdowns over his three years in a Rebel uniform. - Mississippi Football

Ole Miss' receiver room is overloaded with players but not necessarily with a clear pecking order. Senior Jonathan Mingo is expected to be the star. Transfer portal adds Jaylon Robinson (UCF), Jordan Watkins (Louisville) and Malik Heath (Mississippi State) bolster the experience in the room. Then there are Dannis Jackson, Jalen Knox, Bralon Brown, JJ Henry, Brandon Buckhaulter and freshmen Larry Simmons and Jeremiah Dillon all competing for reps. It's a crowded room. Expect plenty of rotation. But if Ole Miss wants its offense to run as smoothly as it did last year, it'll need two or three players other than Mingo to emerge as reliable targets to bring variety to the passing attack. - The Clarion Ledger

Alabama football defensive back Eli Ricks hasn't taken a snap with the Crimson Tide, but his conference peers still regard him as elite. On Day 1 of SEC Media Days, Ole Miss football wide receiver Jonathan Mingo said Ricks is the defensive back he wants to face the most. "A matchup (I'm) looking forward to is, probably, (Eli) Ricks from Alabama, a transfer from LSU," Mingo said. "I watched his game. He's a really good DB. We went to a couple of camps together back in high school, so definitely something I'm looking forward to." Mingo acknowledged he is ready to face any player after missing time last season because of a foot injury but has Nov. 12 circled on his calendar. He caught 22 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns in six games. - The Clarion Ledger

Elijah Moore returns as Ole Miss' top wide receiver after catching 67 passes for 850 yards and six touchdowns last year. All of Ole Miss' other returning wide receivers combined to catch 55 passes for 866 yards and two touchdowns in 2019. Sophomore Jonathan Mingo earned plenty of playing time last year but wasn't super productive, catching 12 passes in 12 games and scoring one touchdown. But offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby identified him as one of the players separating himself in the room. "Mingo's done a great job of working every single day and being in the building and spending time," Lebby said. "It's been incredibly important to him so he's done a good job. And then there are six or seven other guys that are just battling and competing and trying to find their way in to figure out who is going to be on the grass when we start playing." - The Clarion Ledger
