 Jadon Haselwood, Arkansas, Player News

  12/02/22 - WR Jadon HaselwoodrJr/2023, Arkansas, 6-2, 215 (DS#52 WR) + More +

Arkansas receiver Jadon Haselwood, a junior, announced late Monday he would be declaring for the NFL Draft rather than returning as a senior, presumably taking him out of bowl preparations for the Razorbacks. Haselwood, a one-year transfer from Oklahoma, caught at least three passes in every game and finished with a team-high 59 receptions for 702 yards. He caught three touchdown passes and averaged 11.9 yards per catch while playing with an AC joint injury in his left shoulder throughout the season. Transferring to Arkansas reconnected Haselwood to running backs coach Jimmy Smith, his high school coach at Cedar Grove (Ga.) High School. - Northwest Arkansas Times

A top 5 national recruit and the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2019 class, Haselwood was productive but not dominant in three seasons with the Sooners. He totaled 62 receptions for 736 yards and seven touchdowns at Oklahoma, missing half the 2020 season due to injury. Haselwood (6-3, 202) steps out of the portal and into the Razorbacks' No. 1 receiver spot vacated by Treylon Burks, a first-round pick of the NFL's Tennessee Titans. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining. - Birmingham News

Replacing Treylon Burks is one of the primary question marks surrounding the Razorbacks in 2022. Arkansas addressed its needs on the perimeter with plug-and-play receiver talent, but concerns remain. "I don't know if you replace a guy one for one," Pittman said Wednesday at SEC Media Days in Atlanta. "I don't think you can there. We're going to have to do it by committee. I'll say this: We look like a wide receiver group, we run like a wide receiver group. KJ is going to have to get comfortable with where these guys are going to be. "He has to get comfortable with their speed, how they run their routes. That was certainly the No. 1 thing offensively that was concerning."

Jadon Haselwood (Oklahoma) and Matt Landers (Toledo) are two transfer portal additions at receiver who Pittman believes in. Haselwood went through spring drills with the Razorbacks and Landers was previously at Georgia when Pittman was the Bulldogs' offensive line coach. Landers committed to Arkansas in mid-May, roughly one month after spring practices. "Haselwood has not achieved what, out of high school, they said he was going to," Pittman said. "So I'm saying that's a hungry man. He's also a very talented guy. Matt Landers is the same way. We want that performance out of them next year. The way they have worked in the offseason and this summer, I believe that they'll be poised to do that. "I believe they have to do well for us to replace Burks." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  07/12/22 - WR Jadon HaselwoodrJr/2023, Arkansas, 6-2, 215 (DS#52 WR) + More +

Who will Arkansas and quarterback KJ Jefferson turn to at receiver following the departure of Treylon Burks? The Razorbacks, ahead of the 2022 season, have a large void to fill. Selected by the Tennessee Titans with the No. 18 overall pick in the NFL Draft in April, Burks is far from an ordinary talent. The Warren native may very well be the greatest pass catcher the program has ever seen. But Arkansas lost more than just its go-to weapon. The Razorbacks entered spring drills this year minus three of their top four receivers in terms of yardage from a 9-4 season in 2021. Tyson Morris and DeVion Warren were Nos. 2 and 4 in that regard with 337 and 243 yards, respectively. Warren Thompson, a second-year player from Florida State who began his time at Arkansas as a walk-on then earned a scholarship, is the team's top returning receiver. After him, there are question marks.

There is great optimism, however, in Jadon Haselwood, a prize receiver transfer from Oklahoma. And there are great expectations for the 6-3, 211-pound receiver, who has the gifts to lead the Razorbacks on the perimeter. In his last year as a Sooner, he finished third on the team in receiving yards (399) and had team highs in receptions (39) and touchdown catches (6). "He creates mismatches," Jefferson said. "I just make sure I get him the ball a little and put it in the air and just let him make a play. I know he'll come down with it. Just having somebody like that on my team with Burks leaving, he's picking up the slack he left. The only thing we've just got to work on now is timing, and making sure we're both on the same page and thinking alike. "He has a mindset that if he don't catch it then nobody will. Overall, though, I feel like he's the guy that you can just put the ball in his area and he'll go make a play." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  06/27/22 - WR Jadon HaselwoodrJr/2023, Arkansas, 6-2, 215 (DS#52 WR) + More +

KJ Jefferson and Jadon Haselwood have been spending the summer working to continue to build chemistry as a potent passing combination for Arkansas. Both are redshirt juniors, but they didn't become teammates until January when Haselwood transferred from Oklahoma to Arkansas - where Jefferson is getting ready for his fourth year in the program and second season as the Razorbacks' starting quarterback. Haselwood, a wide receiver, played 25 games at Oklahoma going back to his true freshman season in 2019 and had 62 catches for 736 yards and 7 touchdowns. Last season he had 39 catches for 399 yards and a team-high 6 touchdowns.

"Jadon is coming along," Jefferson said earlier this week when he, Haselwood and safety Jalen Catalon worked at a youth camp at the UA's intramural fields. "Just being able to transition from a different system that he was in at Oklahoma to coming to a spread tempo offense, he's picked up on it really fast. "I'm loving his progress. He comes in and works hard every day. We even get in extra work. We go in sometimes at night and work." Jefferson said he'll often get a text from Haselwood about meeting at the Walker Pavilion after dinner. "We work on different routes and get our timing down pat," Jefferson said. "It could be getting on the board [to draw up plays] or watching film or breaking down a route concept and then going out there and running the route. "Speaking the same terminology we'll be speaking on Saturday. Making sure me and him are on the same page and connect." - Northwest Arkansas Times

Poised for a 2022 standout season: Oklahoma transfer wide receiver Jadon Haselwood could be the heir apparent to NFL-bound Treylon Burks. The former five-star prospect caught 39 passes for 399 yards and a team-leading six touchdowns last season. He's the program's highest rated recruit in the modern era. - AP College Football

Jadon Haselwood was looking forward to big things in 2020 for OU. "As a unit, period, the offense is going to be special," Haselwood said after the Sooners' Peach Bowl loss to LSU. "We have the potential to break all types of records. Not just me and Spencer (Rattler). We got Trejan (Bridges) and Theo (Wease) and Stog (Austin Stogner). We'll spread it around for sure." Now, it appears the group of receivers will be one less. Haselwood reportedly suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during a workout last week. SoonerScoop.com first reported Haselwood's injury. Not having Haselwood would significantly shake up the Sooners' receiving corps next year. As a freshman, Haselwood backed up Charleston Rambo at Z receiver, one of the outside spots in Lincoln Riley's offense. - Daily Oklahoman
