Fifth-year Appalachian State red shirt junior running back Camerun Peoples announced on Twitter that he has declared for the 2023 NFL Draft on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Peoples ends his college career with 455 carries for 2,830 yards and 33 rushing touchdowns. T he 6-2, 220 running back had prolific seasons in 2020 and 2021, but this year was hampered by various injuries paired with a packed running back room that went six players deep in some games. Camerun Peoples rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns, quarterback Chase Brice added two rushing scores and Appalachian State scored 28 unanswered points in a 42-17 victory over Georgia State on Wednesday night. Appalachian State (4-3, 2-2 Sun Belt Con ference), which had 41 rushing yards in its last game against Texas State, rushed for 379 yards and six touchdowns. Nate Noel added 69 yards rushing, Daetrich Harrington had 52 and Ahmani Marshall 48.The Appalachian State defense forced two turnov ers on Georgia State's opening three drives of the second half to take control. The Mountaineers also secured a fumbled with 1:20 left in the fourth. Peoples scored on a 16-yard run to pull Appalachian State within 14-7 late in the second quarter. Marsha ll went untouched for a 37-yard touchdown to tie it at 14-all and Brice’s 2-yard touchdown run gave App State its first lead at 21-14. Darren Grainger rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown, and he threw for 72 yards with an interception for Georgia State (2-5, 1-2), which has lost all nine meetings with Appalachian State. Appalachian State's football team is predicted by Sun Belt Conference football coaches to repeat as East Division champion in 2022. Ten of the 14 coaches voted the Mountaineers first, with Coastal Carolina expected to finish second. Louisiana was the cho ice by 10 of 12 coaches to win the West Division. Mountaineers running back Camerun Peoples and offensive lineman Cooper Hodges are projected to make first-team All-Sun Belt Conference.Quarterback Chase Brice, running back Nate Noel and lineman Da mion Daley are predicted to make second team All-Sun Belt on offense, with linebacker Nick Hampton, linebacker Trey Cobb and defensive back Steven Jones picked for the second-team defense. Appalachian State will begin practice Aug. 5 and will open the 20 22 season at noon Sept. 3 (ESPNU) against North Carolina at sold-out Kidd Brewer Stadium. Camerun Peoples ran for three touchdowns and Nate Noel rushed for 87 of his 187 yards on a game-saving drive and Appalachian State defeated Marshall 31-30 on Thursday night. After Chandler Stanton's 45-yard field goal put the Mountaineers on top with 5:4 5 to play, the defense held but Robert Lefevre's 45-yard punt pinned Appalachian State on its 8-yard line with four minutes remaining. Noel then carried five-straight times, the last two 41-and 22-yard bursts that put the Mountaineers (3-1) on the Marsha ll 5. Quarterback Chase Brice then knelt down three times to run out the clock.After the second of Brice's touchdowns, Rasheen Ali had a 97-yard kickoff return to give Marshall a 20-14 lead. But Brice capped a third long drive with a touchdown two seconds before halftime to put Appalachian State back on top 21-20. Ali's touchdown run gave Marshall (2-2) a 30-21 lead entering the fourth quarter. Serving as one of three options out of the backfield, Peoples used the end of the season to surge ahead and become a 1,100-yard rusher. He ran for 317 of those yards in the Myrtle Beach Bowl, a five-touchdown performance that was an exclamation point to end a long and difficult season. Peoples will be part of a talented running back group once again, which speedster Nate Noel and adds transfer Jahmir Smith from Notre Dame. Camerun Peoples ran for a bowl-record 319 yards and tied a record with five rushing touchdowns as Appalachian State beat North Texas 56-28 Monday in the Myrtle Beach Bowl to start college football's pandemic-affected bowl season. Peoples, a sophomore, su rpassed the 307 yards rushing of Georgia Tech's PJ Daniels in the 2004 Humanitarian Bowl. Peoples also became the seventh player to run for that many scores in a bowl game, a list that includes Oklahoma State's Barry Sanders and Toledo's Kareem Hunt, as the Mountaineers (9-3) remained perfect in bowls since joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2014. North Texas (4-6) of Conference USA fell behind 28-7 and had no answer for Peoples or the App State rushing game, which finished with 508 yards. It was a powe rful performance by App State and a somewhat normal start to a bowl schedule with few guarantees about how things will play out. Camerun Peoples scored on a 10-yard touchdown run with just under five minutes remaining as Appalachian State came from behind for a 17-13 win, foiling an upset bid by Georgia State in a bruising game on Saturday. Peoples dragged safety Chris Moore with him over the goal line. The Mountaineers (6-1, 4-0 Sun Belt Conference) lost quarterback Zac Thomas to injury when he was tackled while scrambling out of bounds during the game-winning drive. Jacob Huesman came off the sidelines, promptly hit Peoples wit h a screen pass for 12 yards and finished an 11-play, 77-yard drive for App State's first lead of the game. Georgia State (3-4, 2-4) took the opening kick 75 yards in 13 plays and grabbed a 7-0 lead when Cornelious Brown IV tossed a 19-yard pass to Sam P inckney. The season still has a long way to go, but Saturday was a good start. Peoples was one of three running backs featured in the 35-20 victory against Charlotte. But from the moment he touched the ball, on the Mountaineers' third offensive series, his carrie s were electric. He scored his touchdown and had five carries on the drive - three that were 10 yards or longer. He was the first running back to break the order, his number called again for the next series. He'd get two carries and get dinged up, headin g to the locker room. He returned for more action in the second half. "I guess I'm the hot hand," Peoples remembered before cracking a joke. "...I was like wow hold up now, I gotta catch my breath."App State coach Shawn Clark said during his weekl y press conference that Peoples would continue to be evaluated throughout the week. While Peoples spoke on Monday, an unexpected figure crashed his interview. Nic Cardwell, App State's offensive line coach, busted in to shout a few sentences. "He's thin king he's going to take it to the house," Cardwell shouted. "He's going all the way, as soon as he touches the rock, baby." And as Peoples reflected on his path from Lineville, Ala., to Boone, he hopes that will be the first of many more touchdowns. "I f eel like I've always been kind of overlooked, and I feel like a lot of guys here can relate to that, which I think that's what makes this team so special," Peoples said.
