Bye-bye turnover chain. We knew the famed turnover chain wasn't going to be implemented during the 2022 University of Miami season, even though University of Miami coach Mario Cristobal never committed when asked about it after he arrived at UM. But on T hursday at the ACC Football Kickoff media days in Charlotte, North Carolina, Cristobal confirmed to three Miami Hurricanes beat writers that the Canes would not be using the chain, tweeted on Wednesday night by @ActionNetworkHQ's Brett McMurphy. McMurphy said Miami was "dumping the turnover chain," and that Cristobal told him, "It's not part of our culture."Here's what Cristobal told three local UM beat writers about the subject, when the Miami Herald asked about it, in a private interview sessio n early Thursday: "We're not using it No. 1, but I'd never use a word like 'dumping' because I believe that disrespects things,'' Cristobal said. "I don't judge. It's just really not part of what we're doing - not good, bad or indifferent. "Everything we do unrelated to any turnover chain or any external motivation, our focus has to be on working to get better in every facet of football. We're not using it. But that's kind of been known for a while." Added Cristobal: "It's no knock on anybody or anythin g, it's just not our way. Let's have a turnover celebration on the sideline, where you don't get a penalty." - Miami Herald

Local recruiting expert Larry Blustein offered insight on the two former Miami-Dade County high school standouts who transferred to UM this offseason. On cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, who transferred to the Hurricanes from Georgia: "He came down to Miami and Georgia originally. He's the perfect fit here, local guy, very athletic. He can't just blend in. He has to stand out from Day One. He has to be the guy. He's the best cornerback they've got by far. "He's big, has speed. He's going to be a huge asset . Great tackler, quick, has long arms. It's a much better room now. Too many blown coverages and penalties came out of that secondary." - Miami Herald

Tyrique Stevenson has entered the transfer portal, per a report from Matt Zenitz of AL.com. Stevenson joined the program as a 2019 signee and former top recruit from Miami. He finished his sophomore season but has three seasons of eligibility remaining d ue to the NCAA waiver created during the pandemic. Stevenson's departure serves as another blow to Georgia's secondary, which lost safety Richard LeCounte, cornerbacks Tyson Campbell and Eric Stokes and nickelback Mark Webb Jr. Stevenson had progressed i nto an emerging star for Georgia over his two seasons in Athens. The former four-star recruit had a strong performance in last season's SEC championship game and followed it with significant playing time in 2020. - Macon Telegraph
