Daniel Parker Jr., Oklahoma, Player News

Daniel Parker didn't hesitate. "I'll do it," Parker responded when Missouri coaches asked him during preseason camp in 2018 to make the move from defensive end to tight end. Parker knew that his path to playing time as a freshman might be faster on the offense. But Parker had never played tight end before making the switch four years ago. "He didn't realize how early and how often he was going to have to play," said Joe Jon Finley, Missouri's tight ends coach at the time. Now, Finley is OU's tight ends coach and Parker is a tight end for the Sooners after transferring in the offseason.

"We had that connection," Parker said of Finley. "He knows what I'm about. I know what he's about. It was just good to get back with him." Brayden Willis, with 45 career games played and 12 starts, figures to be OU's primary tight end this season but Parker's varying skill set figures to give him a place among the group. "He brings the mindset that just gives you chills when you think about old-school football," Finley said. "We're going to be physical, and that's the part he absolutely loves. He can go out and catch the ball...He couldn't come here at a better time fitting in with the mindset of Coach (Brent) Venables of being physical, fast and playing extremely hard. He's a picture of that." - Daily Oklahoman

Missouri senior tight end Daniel Parker Jr. was arrested by Columbia police on Wednesday for failing to appear in court for a speeding ticket issued last fall. Parker was already serving a two-year probation term for a 2019 misdemeanor traffic violation for operating a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, according to online court records. Last October, Parker was cited for exceeding the speed limit by 20-25 mph by Columbia police and did not attend scheduled court appearances in January and March, leading to a warrant for his arrest. The warrant was served Wednesday and Parker posted bond for $232. Failure to appear in court is considered a Class A misdemeanor if the matter involves a misdemeanor violation. - Post-Dispatch

Daniel Parker's love of life, his family and his spiritual faith have never been this strong. And a few of his very close friends have wondered why, as the former Examiner Offensive Player of the Year and current University of Missouri tight end nearly lost his right eye to an infection that resulted in four major surgical procedures. After five months of lingering doubt, including two months of dealing with double vision and the type of pain that brought Parker to his knees, the Blue Springs High School graduate regained full vision in the eye last week. "After one of the surgeries, they told me I may not be able to see again," Parker said from his family's apartment in Blue Springs. "They said I might not be able to play football again. "And I put everything in the hands of God. The surgeons had done their job, my family and friends had been praying, and now it was all up to God."

Some of his friends questioned his decision to turn his life over to God, especially since he had been going through hell on earth with all the medical procedures that began one January morning in Blue Springs. "My friends asked, 'How could God let this happen?'" Parker said, as his brother Jackson played a video game across the room and his mother Jennifer sat by her son. "My life was moving a little too fast - a lot too fast - and I think this was God's way of telling me to slow down. "If this wouldn't have happened, I don't really know where my life would be right now. It gave me a chance to look at my life and realize just how blessed I am." - Columbia Daily Tribune
