OCT 3 AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Joe Doyle, Sr., P, Memphis,...Doyle was instrumental in the field position battle in Memphis’ 24-3 win against Temple, a game that was a one-possession contest until midway through th e third quarter. He averaged 53.5 yards on six punts, hitting four punts of at least 50 yards and one that covered 62 yards. 2022 PRESEASON RAY GUY WATCHLIST: Joe Doyle - Memphis,...Doyle (6-1, 199) played for Tennessee 2018 and 2019. He was first on the Ray Guy watch list in 2018 and became a finalist. As a redshirt junior in 2021, Doyle appeared in all 12 games for the Tige rs, seeing action at punter and field goal kicker. Punted 41 times on the season for an average of 46.0 per attempt with four touchbacks, 14 fair catches, 16 inside the 20-yard line and 16 punts of over 50 yards. Connected on 7-of-12 field goals with a l ong of 51. Hit all five of his field goal attempts against Nicholls and had season-long 51 yarder against Mississippi State. The NCAA transfer portal now contains two former University of Tennessee specialists. After senior kicker Brent Cimaglia revealed Friday that he would use his final year of eligibility elsewhere, redshirt junior punter Joe Doyle elected Saturday to leave the Volunteers as well. Doyle, a 6-foot, 204-pounder from Knoxville, was a USA Today Freshman All-America selection in 2018 but was beaten out by Paxton Brooks midway through the 2019 season and did not attempt any punts this past season. The Athletic w as the first to report Doyle's departure. Doyle averaged 41.1 yards in 2018, when his 65 punts led the Southeastern Conference. Only eight of his punts were returned for a total of just 15 yards. In Tennessee's 38-12 loss at Georgia that season, Doyle ha d a career-long 71-yarder. - Chattanooga Times Free Press
