UCF football was picked to finish third in the 2022 American Athletic Conference football preseason media poll released Thursday. The Knights, who received seven first-place votes and a total of 225 point, trail behind only Houston and defending league champion Cincinnati. The Cougars received seven of a possible 24 first-place votes to finish with 243 points in the poll, while the Bearcats were second at 242 points, despite the Bearcats' receiving 10 first-place votes. SMU was fourth with 187 points as first-year head coach Rhett Lashlee will have quarterback Tanner Mordecai back. Memphis was chosen fifth, ECU sixth, Tulane seventh, Tulsa eighth, South Florida ninth, Navy tenth and Temple last. The preseason media poll correctly picked Cincinnati as the AAC's champion last year. The Bearcats became the first Group of Five squad to make the College Football Playoff. This year, the Knights return a ton of talent at key positions including wide receiver Ryan O'Keefe, running back Isaiah Bowser, and defensive back Divaad Wilson. - Orlando Sentinel

2022 PRESEASON DOAK WALKER AWARD CANDIDATE: Isaiah Bowser (Sr.), UCF,...A fifth-year senior who transferred from Northwestern to UCF before the 2021 season. With this name, should have been a natural at Georgia, right? Last year he appeared in eight games, making five starts at running back during first season with the Knights. He was named to AAC Weekly Honor Roll once and earned CBS Sports National Game Ball of the Week once. Led the Knights with 159 rushing attempts, nine rushing touchdowns and 87.9 rushing yards per game and finished season with 703 yards rushing and an average of 4.4 yards per carry, showing this Bowser has a bite even if he isn't a Dawg. - UCF Football

With the start of the 2022 UCF football season less than 100 days away, more details regarding kickoff times and television network information for some games were announced Thursday. The Knights will open Year 2 under coach Gus Malzahn on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+ inside the Bounce House against South Carolina State. The following week, UCF will host Louisville on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2. The first road trip of the season for the Knights comes in Week 3 when UCF travels to FAU for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on CBS Sports Network.

Finally, UCF will host American Athletic Conference foe Temple on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. on ESPN. Most of the remaining start times and television designations for the upcoming schedule will be made on a weekly basis through the season as part of the conference's 12-day selection process. That includes UCF's matchup vs. rival South Florida, which could be moved from its traditional date of the Friday following Thanksgiving. This season, however, only one AAC game will be selected for Black Friday. - Orlando Sentinel

UCF (9-4) took a 26-17 lead late in the third when Daniel Obarski made a 21-yard field goal and Mikey Keene threw a 54-yard scoring strike to O'Keefe in the span of about two minutes. Obarski then made it 29-17 on a 33-yarder with 2:41 to play. "Yeah, we are the best in Florida," said O'Keefe, who also had 110 rushing yards. "We always thought that, but now we finally got to prove it." Florida quarterback Emory Jones, playing in his final game with the Gators before entering the transfer portal, completed 14 of 36 passes for 171 yards.

Former Louisiana coach Billy Napier will take over for the 2022 season. Florida (6-7) finished with its first losing record since 2017.   Isaiah Bowser rushed 172 yards, including the go-ahead touchdown with a little over four minutes remaining, and UCF rallied from a 21-point deficit to beat Boise State 36-31 on Thursday night in a game that began almost three hours late because of lightning-caused delays. The Knights and Broncos were scheduled to start their game at 7:05 p.m., but multiple lightning strikes that appeared within an 8-mile radius resulted in a 9:45 p.m. kickoff. "I think we learned that no matter what adversity we come through, we can come back, fight back, and win," Bowser said. Boise State stormed out to a 21-0 lead before UCF cut the margin to 24-14 by halftime and scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to take its first lead. "They're a bunch of winners - they refuse to let us lose," new head coach Gus Malzahn said. UCF backup safety Dyllon Lester made a game-sealing interception with 2:07 left. - Central Florida/AP College Football

UCF coach Gus Malzahn continues to fill out his roster, adding another transfer in former Northwestern running back Isaiah Bowser. Bowser, a 3-star prospect from Sidney, Ohio who was a part of the Wildcats' 2018 recruiting class, announced his decision on social media Friday afternoon. Bowser appeared in 23 games during his time in Evanston, rushing for 1,300 yards and seven touchdowns on 334 carries. His best season was in 2018 when he started nine games and finished with 866 yards and six touchdowns. He started four of Northwestern's first five games last season before injuries forced him into a smaller role, sharing backfield carries with Cam Porter and Drake Anderson. Bowser entered the transfer portal in mid-December and previously committed to playing at Miami of Ohio before decommitting this week. - Orlando Sentinel

Isaiah Bowser started his college career with a flourish. He hopes to finish it the same way, albeit at Miami University instead of Northwestern. A 6-foot-1, 220-pound power back, Bowser hopes to display an expanded game in coach Chuck Martin's Miami offense with the help of running backs coach Lamar Conard. "I have aspirations of playing in NFL, and I think he can help me reach that as well as being the best player I can be," Bowser said of Conard in an interview this week. "I think he sees the vision that I see going forward. He knows what I want to do, and he's going to help me do the things I want to do in the future."

After a record-setting career at Sidney, Bowser ran for 866 yards and six touchdowns as a freshman at Northwestern in 2018. His emergence in the second half of that season was huge in the Wildcats' run to the Big Ten West division championship as it gave Northwestern's offense needed balance. Since then, injuries have limited Bowser to only 12 games. He had 204 yards on 59 carries as a sophomore and 230 yards on 78 carries last season. - Hamilton Journal News
