2022 WUERFFEL TROPHY FINALIST: Patrick Fields, Stanford,...For the second straight season, Stanford's fifth-year safety Patrick Fields has been named a finalist for the Wuerffel Trophy. Fields is joined by Florida State's Dillan Gibbons and Minnesota's T anner Morgan as the three finalists. The winner will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 8. A two-time graduate at Oklahoma, Fields is studying for his master's in management science and engineering at Stanford. He was one of three finalists for the award las t season at Oklahoma, which ultimately was received by Cardinal quarterback Isaiah Sanders. Fields has been active in the Stanford community since joining the Cardinal program from Oklahoma in January. He planned and executed a three-day mentorship and n etworking event prior to Juneteenth in his hometown of Tulsa, Okla. The event brought together high school and college students with black business owners, leaders and mentors, to teach the students about the college admissions process and financial reso urces available to them.Fields raised the funds to make all events during the three days free to those who attended and hopes to give out academic scholarships through the event in the future. While at Oklahoma, Fields founded the Black Wall Stree t Scholarship, collaborating with the president of the OU National Black Alumni Association to establish an endowment with the purpose of providing scholarships for underrepresented and lower income students from inner-city Tulsa. In July of 2021, Fields founded and coordinated the Patrick Fields Back to School Bash and football camp for economically vulnerable elementary students in Tulsa. He is passionate about educating students, especially underrepresented students, about financial literacy, money m anagement, credit and personal branding, and founded Town Business to do just that in Tulsa. Established in 2005, the Wuerffel Trophy honors college football players who serve others, celebrate their impact, and inspire greater service in the world. - St anford Football

As a veteran safety with three Big 12 Championships and two College Football Playoff semifinals under his belt with Oklahoma, Patrick Fields brings the kind of experience a floundering Stanford program desperately needs. When he suits up for the Cardinal next fall, Fields will fulfill one of his biggest childhood dreams. As a freshman in 2018 he watched teammate Kyler Murray win the Heisman Trophy and played in the CFP semifinals. But he had other goals, including a degree in Science and Engineering. "I told myself as a freshman, I want to grad transfer to Stanford," Fields said. "He kind of has a different mentality," said fifth-year wide receiver Michael Wilson. "He's used to winning...because that's all he knows at OU." Fields will have three colleg e degrees by the time he wraps up his college football career, but playing in the NFL is still his next goal. - The Stanford Daily
