  10/17/20 - TE Braden GallowaySr/2022, Clemson, 6-4, 239 (DS#19 TE) + More +

The biggest obstacles to Braden Galloway's second touchdown in Clemson's 42-17 win over Miami last weekend were space and time. Galloway caught the ball around the 7-yard-line, turned and made off for the corner of the end zone. Miami safety Brian Balom, in response, left his assignment and sped to close the gap between Galloway and the pylon. That's when the tight end unleashed on Balom the force of inertia. Both players had been in motion, but when they collided it was Balom who tumbled to the ground, leaving Galloway standing victorious. "That's just the passion of the game showing right there," Galloway said, but it seemed to be more than that. It felt like a rebuke of the green and orange 'U' on Balom's helmet, and of the notion that it was the Hurricanes who boast the most talented tight end corps in the ACC. Entering the bout, conversation centered on Miami's hyped tight end duo of Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory. But on Saturday it was Galloway and his co-star Davis Allen who looked more like the league's preeminent combo. "Braden is a special talent," coach Dabo Swinney said. "And Davis Allen is another guy, a sophomore, big, strong, athletic." - Charleston Post Courier

  10/12/20 - TE Braden GallowaySr/2022, Clemson, 6-4, 239 (DS#19 TE) + More +

All three of Lawrence's touchdown passes went to tight ends, with Braden Galloway catching two and Davis Allen grabbing one. There was a lot of talk about Miami's tight ends entering the game, but it was Clemson's who were difference makers. Galloway and Allen are big and can run, and with linebackers having to focus so much attention to Etienne, it opens up room for Galloway and Allen to get behind them. "When we're at our best is when our tight ends are productive in the passing game," Tigers offensive coordinator Tony Elliott said. "It just so happened that this defensive structure was going to create some situations where you could get some one-on-one matchups." - The State

  09/15/20 - TE Braden GallowaySr/2022, Clemson, 6-4, 239 (DS#19 TE) + More +

While Clemson's receivers didn't have their best night, the tight ends came to play. Braden Galloway had five catches for 60 yards, Davis Allen caught one pass for 42 yards and J.C. Chalk caught a 12-yard touchdown, the first of his career. The lack of a pass-catcher at tight end has been noticeable in Clemson's offense the past couple of years. Before Saturday, the Tigers had not had a tight end catch a touchdown since 2018. With linebackers forced to focus on Travis Etienne and Clemson's running game, Tigers tight ends should have plenty of opportunities throughout the season. - The State

Clemson tight end Braden Galloway insists that assistant coach Danny Pearman's use of the n-word during a 2017 practice is not indicative of the type of person Pearman is. Galloway, speaking after Tuesday's practice, said he was already aware of the incident involving Pearman and former tight end D.J. Greenlee before it was brought to light this summer. Greenlee told The State in June that Pearman used the word in a heated practice discussion moments after Greenlee first used the word. "He was repeating what I just said. He's like, 'n-word this, n-word that," Greenlee recalled. Pearman issued an apology this summer, saying, "What I overheard, I had no right to repeat." Galloway spoke with reporters Tuesday, becoming the first tight end to speak with the media since the incident made national headlines this summer. Galloway said he forgave Pearman for the incident and holds no ill will toward him.

"Obviously there are things going on in this world today that just aren't right, and some people, it's hard to really get through their minds, trying to explain to them and they're just not understanding. And coach Pearman's not one of those people," said Galloway, a junior. "He's very empathetic and very sympathetic about how we feel. He's talked to specifically me and Jaelyn (Lay) because we're the only African-American tight ends, and just made sure that everything was clear. "I've been here three years. I know what kind of guy he is. I know what kind of person he is...I'm happy he's my coach." - The State

  03/26/20 - TE Braden GallowaySr/2022, Clemson, 6-4, 239 (DS#19 TE) + More +

Some believe the 6-4, 248-pound Galloway can follow in the footsteps of 6-5, 258-pound Jordan Leggett, the former Clemson tight end who now plays in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a senior in 2016, Leggett recorded 46 catches for 736 yards and seven touchdowns at Clemson. "There's a lot of comparisons that go out there between him and me," said Galloway, adding that he and Leggett have an open line of communication. "I'm just trying to be the best player I can be." Shortly before the 2018 Cotton Bowl, Galloway, then a rarely used freshman, fielded a call from coach Dabo Swinney, who informed him of his positive test. Galloway then called his father. "I couldn't believe it. I thought it was a joke. Just like he thought coach was joking with him," Derrick said. "I knew Braden didn't do anything wrong. That's what I knew in my heart."

The suspension prevented Galloway from playing in the Cotton Bowl and the Tigers' national championship win over Alabama. His appeal to the NCAA in the offseason was denied. He spent most of his sophomore season on the scout team, which is "not something you want to do." With defensive coordinator Brent Venables calling the shots, Galloway said, every practice was intense. The suspension meant his name remained in the public discourse, but not through the lens Galloway would prefer. Uncertainty loomed over his career. During Clemson's first bye week, after the team escaped North Carolina with a 21-20 victory, Galloway traveled to an Atlanta tattoo artist. He got new ink sketched on his left arm: 'Bet On Yourself.' "A lot my tattoos don't have meaning," he said. "But this one, going through last year there was a lot of doubt whenever I came back, what kind of player I would be." - Charleston Post
