2022 ALL-CONFERENCE USA FIRST TEAM: K: Gavin Baechle, UTEP,...Baechle concluded his career as one of the top kickers in program history. The McKinney, Texas, product leads C-USA with 22 field goals, and ranks fourth nationally. Baechle's 91.7 percent (22 -24) leads C-USA while rating second in FG attempts. Baechle concluded his career as UTEP's all-time leader with 58 made field goals. While his 22 consecutive makes are also a school record. Baechle's 22 makes in '22 is a career high while it ranks secon d all-time for a single season in school history. Baechle's 97 points ranks fifth, and his 8.1 points per game checks in third in C-USA. Other Baechle's highlights included the walk-off, game-winning field goal to beat Florida Atlantic and driving a care er-long 54-yard make through the uprights at no. 9 Oklahoma on national television. The Lou Groza Award semifinalist finished 22-24 on fie ld goals with a long of 54 yards, and he finished a perfect 31-31 on extra points. After missing his first field goal attempt of the season, Baechle hit his next 22 attempts for the Miners. Additionally, the McKinney, Texas, native registered 40 touchbac ks on 63 kickoff attempts. OCT 24 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UTEP K Gavin Baechle connected on a 27-yard field goal as time expired that lifted UTEP to a 24-21 victory over Florida Atlantic after being down 14-6 late in the third quarter. Baechle's field goal was not just the game winner, but it was the 51st of his career, which set the program's record for field goals made. Baechle is also 15-for-16 in 2022, nailing his last 15 attempts. It's the longest streak of his career and longest since the 2008 seaso n for a UTEP kicker. Baechle tied his career best with three field goals, the first of which came on a 29-yard attempt to open the scoring in the second quarter. Baechle added his second field goal in the second quarter on a 32-yard make. Baechle leads C -USA with 15 made field goals and field goals per game (1.9). OCT 3 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UTEP K Gavin Baechle scored a season-high 11 points (5-5 PATs, 2-2 FG) in UTEP's 41-35 win at Charlotte on Saturday. Baechle extended his streak to 11 consecutive made field goals after hitting on a 22-yard make that gave the Miners a 10-7 edge in the first quarter, while hitting a 29-yarder late in the third that pushed UTEP's lead to 34-21. Baechle is now 11-for-12 on field goals on the season. He leads Conference USA in made field goals (11), att empts (12) and FGM/game (1.8). Nationally, Baechle ranks third in field goals made and is tied eighth in field goals made/per game. AUG 30 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UTEP K Gavin Baechle accounted for 12 of UTEP's 30 points scored after finishing a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals and connected on all three of his PAT attempts in the win over New Mexico State. The 12 points and three field goals by Baechle tied his career-high marks as a Miner, both of which were previously set in UTEP's win over Houston Baptist to open the 2019 campaign. Gavin Baechle kicked a 35-yard field goal midway in the fourth quarter to secure UTEP's 36-34 victory over Houston Baptist on Saturday night. The game winner, with 8:15 remaining, was Baechle's third field goal of the evening. The Huskies were driving to retake the lead on the next series when Chris Richardson sacked Bailey Zappe, causing a fumble that Justin Rogers recovered at UTEP's 26. The Miners were then able to run out the clock.The season-opening victory was the first for UTEP since start ing the 2016 season with a 38-22 win over New Mexico State. UTEP won just one game last year, defeating Rice 34-26. Houston Baptist was 1-10 in each of the past two seasons. The Miners took an early lead, going into the break ahead 20-17 after Baechle bo oted a 21-yarder as time expired in the first half. He started the scoring with a 30-yard field goal. The Huskies took their final lead, 34-33, when Ean Beek scored from the 3 with 12:59 remaining. Brandon Jones threw for 268 yards and a score for UTEP.
