OCT 3 MAC WEST DIVISION DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jaquan Amos, Ball State, S, Gr., Philadelphia, Pa. (Northeast),...Safety Jaquan Amos had a season-high 12 tackles to lead Ball State to a come-from-behind win vs. NIU. After trailing 24-7 at halftime, on the first possession of the second half, Amos picked off a pass on the third play of the second half and returned it all the way to the four-yard line. The Cardinals then scored to make it a 10-point game and give Ball State some momentum. After NIU scored on four of their first six possessions, Amos guided the Cardinals defense to hold the Huskies to just 14 points across their final eight drives and included three punts and two stops on fourth down. NIU started the game going 5-of-7 on third down, but was held to just 2-of-10 on third down by Amos and the Ball State defense in the second half and overtimes. - MAC Football

Former Iowa State and Xavier safety Jaquan Amos announced his commitment as a graduate transfer on Jan. 8. He enrolled this spring. Amos was a part of Villanova's 2017 class, recording 149 tackles, eight interceptions, 25 passes defensed and three forced fumbles in three seasons. He recorded just two tackles in his one season at Iowa State. - Star Press

Iowa State has added a veteran piece to its 2021-2022 secondary. Jaquan Amos, a graduate transfer defensive back out of Villanova, announced Monday his commitment to Iowa State. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder was also considering West Virginia, Virginia, Miss issippi State and Kansas State. Villanova didn't play this fall. In his prior three seasons, Amos played in 33 games and logged 109 tackles, six tackles for loss, eight interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He was seen as one of the top available secondary transfers. - Des Moines Register

Amos leads the Wildcats with his four picks on the year and has returned two interceptions fo r touchdowns. He had a 27-yard pick-six in the season opener against Colgate and a 34-yard interception return for a score at Bucknell on the game's first play from scrimmage. He recorded seven tackles, including four solos, as part of a defensive effort that limited Colgate to 288 total yards. He led the Wildcats in tackles as a sophomore last season. Danny Smith threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, leading Villanova past Colgate 34-14 on Saturday in the first game of the 150th season of college football. Justin Covington contributed 134 yards, his first game reaching 100 yards, and the def ense set the tone with two early takeaways, including a touchdown for cornerback Jaquan Amos. The Wildcats, picked to finish ninth in the CAA, piled up 444 yards against the Patriot League favorite Raiders, the two-time defending league championships who gave up just six points in their first seven games last season.After a fumble late in the scoreless first quarter, Jalen Jackson turned a dump off from Smith into the first touchdown of the new season, covering 18 yards. Amos had a 27-yard interc eption return a minute later. Smith completed the 27-point quarter with a 45-yard pass to Changa Hodge and a 15-yarder to Andrew Perez, his first career reception. The Wildcats had a 271-99 advantage in total offense at the break. Grant Breneman had a to uchdown pass and a scoring run for Colgate, a top-20 FCS team in the preseason rankings, before Smith closed out the scoring on a 9-yard run. - AP College Football
