 Treshaun Hayward, Arizona, Player News

Linebacker Treshaun Hayward will be part of the Arizona football team after all, the Star has learned. Hayward - a transfer from Western Michigan, where he was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 - signed with the Wildcats in February. The two parties subsequently parted ways for undisclosed reasons. Hayward is now back in the mix and is expected to participate in training camp, which begins Friday. His return gives Arizona another experienced option in a rebuilt linebacking corps. The UA has added five linebackers via the NCAA transfer portal. Hayward accumulated 229 tackles, including 16 stops for losses, in 39 games at WMU. - Arizona Star News

Linebacker Treshaun Hayward will not be part of the of the Arizona Wildcats football program, the Star has confirmed. Hayward, a graduate transfer from Western Michigan, had signed with Arizona in February. However, the UA recently decided to part ways with Hayward. Coach Jedd Fisch declined to discuss the reason the school moved on. Hayward was the Defensive Player of the Year in the Mid-American Conference in 2019 and was projected to compete for a starting position. But additional linebackers are on the way, including three via the NCAA transfer portal: Jerry Roberts (Bowling Green), Malik Reed (Wisconsin) and Kenny Hebert (Vanderbilt). - Arizona Star News

Hayward was the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2019, when he recorded 142 tackles, including 10.5 for losses. Coach says: "He's just a tackling machine. He's all over the field. He has pass-rush ability. He will strike you...He's a guy that can run. He's a smart guy. He also has tremendous leadership skills. I've enjoyed getting to know him over the last bit of time here. I think people here in Tucson are going to be really excited about the way he plays...The guy's played in big games. He understands how to play in the spotlight." - defensive coordinator Don Brown - Arizona Star News

Western Michigan football senior linebacker Treshaun Hayward has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, a source confirmed to the Western Herald Sunday evening. In four years with the program, Hayward totaled 238 tackles with 16.5 tackles for loss and one sack in 36 games played. Hayward was named MAC Defensive Player of the Year last season after compiling 142 tackles and 4.5 sacks with 11 tackles for loss, becoming the eighth player in school history to win the award.

He was also a first team All-MAC pick in 2019 and an All-America selection by Sporting News (2nd team) and Phil Steele (4th team). His production in this year's shortened six-game season was down from his 2019 performance as Hayward came up with 59 tackles, 3.5 for loss and 0.5 sacks on a 4-2 Broncos team, but was also limited with an injury that forced him to wear a protective cast on his left arm for most of the season. - Western Herald

The reigning Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year returns to Western Michigan this season, and if the college football analysts are correct, Treshaun Hayward's senior campaign should be another special one. Phil Steele selected the 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker as a Fourth Team All-American heading into 2020, marking Hayward's third preseason accolade, after the Ypsilanti native and Ann Arbor Skyline graduate earned first team honors on all-conferences lists from Steele and Athlon Sports. Hayward wrapped up his junior campaign ranked third nationally with 142 tackles, to go along with 10.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, one pass breakup, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
