Temple Football head coach Rod Carey announced that three players have been awarded single-digit jerseys. Safety Amir Tyler moves from number 25 to number 3, cornerback Christian Braswell moves from number 14 to number 2, and wide receiver Jadan Blue swi tches from number 18 to number 5. A Temple tradition that was originally instituted by then head coach Al Golden in 2009, the awarding of single-digits has become one of the most symbolic in all of college football. The toughest players, on and off the f ield, as awarded by their teammates, has become an identity and badge of honor to those who are deemed "Temple Tuff." In fact, several other college football programs have copied the tradition. - Temple Football

Temple football coach Rod Carey was ecstatic while watching the NFL draft over the weekend. How could he not be? Temple had four players selected in the draft, the most ever for the program. The school had three players selected eight times. Center Matt Hennessy was selected in the third round by the Atlanta Falcons. Cornerback Harrison Hand went in the fifth round to the Minnesota Vikings. The Eagles selected linebacker Shaun Bradley in the sixth round, and fellow linebacker Chapelle Russell was taken in the seventh round by Tampa Bay, guided by former Temple head coach Bruce Arians. "It is a dream come true, a moment in time where they've probably been dreaming about that moment since they first played football, and it came true," Carey said Tuesday during a video conference call with reporters.Temple has had multiple players drafted for five straight years, the only non-Power Five school to do so. "For our program, it's a huge recruiting [boost]," said Carey, who went 8-5 in his first season after being the head coach the previous six at Northern Illinois. "And it's a powerful, powerful thing." Temple has had 77 players drafted by NFL teams. Having this type of success, especially lately, is something any coaching staff would look to build on. "It just happened and we are certainly capitalizing," Carey said. "You've probably seen our social media and things like that and we're pushing those things out and we want to continue to do that, because we've proven now, not just with this year but in the previous years at Temple, if you come here, there is a clear pathway." - Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News

Temple has agreed to a three-year deal with Nike to become its official outfitter for athletics, the university announced Wednesday. Details of the agreement were not disclosed. Temple and Under Armour mutually decided to part ways five years after signi ng a 10-year extension in 2015. At the time, The Inquirer reported that the agreement was worth $30 million, citing two sources. "We are very excited about our new partnership with Nike, the leading apparel company of collegiate athletics," said Patrick Kraft, Temple's director of athletics. "We look forward to working together in this partnership to enhance the Temple and Nike brands."Nike will be the exclusive brand for all apparel, footwear, and accessories for Temple's 19 varsity sports. The deal will go into effect in July, according to the Owls. Nike designs at schools like Oregon, LSU, and Baylor have proved to help recruiting. Teams wearing Nike apparel have won the last six men's basketball and college football championships. In 2018, N ike outfitted 52.8% of Power 5 and Group of 5 teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Temple will become the seventh of 12 schools in the American Athletic Conference outfitted by Nike. - Philadelphia Inquirer/Daily News
