Louisville desperately needed a free safety this offseason, even before the departure of Lovie Jenkins in June. It got that in Duncan Jr. The Georgia Southern transfer arrived at Louisville in the spring and immediately made his presence felt. Louisville's coaching staff raves about the 6-foot-2 safety who has two years of eligibility remaining. He already knows Louisville's defense and made his mark as a leader on and off the field. Some coaches believe an NFL future isn't far off for Duncan Jr.

He tallied 146 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, six interceptions and 21 defended passes while at Georgia Southern. If he can duplicate those numbers at Louisville, he will be a massive upgrade for the Cardinals over any safety they've had the last few years. The reason I have him as the most important defensive player is because of the importance at safety. Duncan Jr., is filling a hole that didn't have an answer after the season and will be a key piece in Louisville's ability to force turnovers. If he lives up to the hype and can turn into an all-conference player, expect Louisville's defense to force more turnovers and limit big plays a bit more this season. - Courier Journal

When Kenderick Duncan Jr. entered the transfer portal, he was worried about starting over. A redshirt junior at Georgia Southern, Duncan was an All-Sun Belt Conference player for the Eagles. Still, he decided to enter the transfer portal after the 2020 season and found his place at Louisville with defensive coordinator Bryan Brown. In Brown's system, Duncan feels comfortable because it's similar to what he ran at Georgia Southern. "After talking to coach Brown and coach (Scott) Satterfield, it made me feel that if I come to Louisville, I will be at home," Duncan said. "I don't have to feel out of place. I won't feel like a random kid. They treat me like I was part of the family. They made me feel welcome and we adapted to everything."

On paper, it was a perfect partnership. Duncan gets his chance to play Power 5 football and Louisville gets a safety with in-game experience to lead the backend of its secondary. A few months into the change, Duncan has impressed many people at Louisville through his play on the field - and off. "He looks it but he also plays like it," Brown said. "He's a smart cat that understands what we are doing. He was in a similar defense before so he's able to teach our younger guys calls and checks." - Savannah Morning News
