The Kansas football program's quarterback depth for 2022 took a hit when two reserves - Miles Kendrick and Conrad Hawley - decided to leave via the transfer portal. KU head coach Lance Leipold confirmed Wednesday during his early signing period press con ference that both QBs are moving on. Leipold said their departure was one of the factors in KU recruiting and signing Class of 2022 quarterback Ethan Vasko, out of Chesapeake, Virginia. A redshirt senior for the Jayhawks in 2021, Kendrick could have pote ntially used the NCAA's 2020 Covid waiver for an extra year of eligibility to remain at KU, if that was a scenario both he and the coaching staff wanted to pursue. - Lawrence Journal World

As Kansas football players get initiated this summer into what head coach Lance Leipold and his staff expect of them, a handful of Jayhawks already are getting noticed. The team's director of sports performance, Matt Gildersleeve, tabbed veteran quarterb ack Miles Kendrick KU's first "guy of the week" for all that the QB has done during the Jayhawks' strength and conditioning workouts so far. "Guy of the week is the guy that moves the needle the most in this program - not just maintains the standard or i s consistent with it, but he is relentlessly pursuing the enhancement of our standard here," Gildersleeve explained in a video posted to KU football's social media accounts."He walks in the room and makes it better because he's there," Gildersleev e added, as he explained what he's looking for from a player before bestowing a Jayhawk with the honor. "He's gonna elevate those around him. He's gonna serve our room - he walks into it, he serves the people around him, he makes them better." A senior f rom Morgan Hill, Calif., Kendrick is now in his fourth year at KU. During the past several months in particular, teammates and coaches have lauded his approach as a leader within the facility. - Lawrence Journal World

Miles Kendrick will start at quarterback for against WVU, with all indications that the junior will receive every opportunity to hold that role from the opening kickoff to the final whistle. "We gave Miles Kendrick the nod, we told him he's our guy this week," Dearmon said. "We named him a captain because of the way that he practiced last week. He's doing a great job. It's not that the other two are not doing a good job, it's just that Miles Kendrick has earned a spot this week, so we're going to go wit h Miles Kendrick." Senior Thomas MacVittie, out with a shoulder injury since the Jayhawks' season opener, has returned and is a "full-go" at practice. True freshman Jalon Daniels, meanwhile, appears to still be limited from an injury sustained in the tea m's last contest, a 47-7 defeat to Oklahoma State on Oct. 3. Dearmon said that, in his ideal world, he would "like to play one" quarterback, though he noted none of the three signal callers have locked themselves into the starting job. - Topeka Capital J ournal
