Jarrick Bernard-Converse, a graduate transfer, has already stepped up as a vocal leader during his short amount of time with the Tigers. He has the pedigree to be a plug-and-play starter for LSU, as he was a first-team All-Big 12 selection last season. B ut an injury during spring practices puts into question whether he can stay on the field enough to be a positive impact on the Tigers' defense. - Daily Advertiser

Somewhere along the way last season, Jarrick Bernard-Converse earned the nickname "Amazon" from Oklahoma State cornerbacks coach Tim Duffie. Because he always delivers. Bernard-Converse has started 33 consecutive games for Oklahoma State, the longest act ive streak on the team entering the coming season. And there's not much better a position to have a long-time starter with deep familiarity with the defense than cornerback. "Jarrick, he's just a steady guy," OSU defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said. " He's played every play since I've been here and you can count on him to be that steady influence." And though he isn't naturally a vocal leader, Bernard-Converse finds ways to influence the team with his voice."He's not the loudest person," Knowle s said. "Jarrick is a really humble guy. But I've seen him try to step up with all these younger guys. We've had an influx of great talent at defensive back in the younger classes and I've seen Jarrick step up. They look up to him. He carries himself and he has a manner of speaking to them that's different than me." For Bernard-Converse, being a leader isn't just about being vocal, but leading in the direction Knowles wants the team to go. "This is year four in the system and the young guys look up to u s," Bernard-Converse said. "We're experienced, so Coach Knowles relies on us to make sure we're leading the guys in the right way and the way he wants." - Daily Oklahoman

Jarrick Bernard quietly walked between the various groups of interview scrums as his Oklahoma State teammates and coaches talked to the media following the first day of spring football practice earlier this month. He stopped and waited his turn. Througho ut his first two seasons, that was the norm for Bernard, slipping under the media radar while other Cowboy defensive backs gained more attention. But spring ball was going to be different. And it was going to be important, until the coronavirus pandemic likely wiped out any chance of spring practices beyond the three the Cowboys held prior to March 13.Bernard didn't stay hidden for long after that first practice, because everyone knows how important spring was going to be for the safety-turned-co rnerback who was being asked to fill the void of NFL-bound A.J. Green. "The kid's got over 2,000 snaps of experience," defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said of Bernard. "Now, you move him to corner and he's got such long arms. You want him to compete, a nd he's got a short memory. He looks good out there. "We're hopeful that he'll take the job." - Daily Oklahoman
