UCF long snapper Alex Ward was sitting down in his living room checking email on his phone when a new message arrived. The sixth-year UCF long snapper had received an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine. "It came through very nonchalant," Ward said. " It's just some guy's name and NFL beside it. I'm like, "What is this?" I open it up and the first thing I see is the Combine logo, "We're excited to extend an invite to the Combine. I jumped up, my phone went flying and I ran to the front door, ran back to the living room, I'm jumping up and called my Dad," he recalled. "It was great." - Orlando Sentinel

2022 PATRICK MANNELLY AWARD FINALIST: Alex Ward, UCF,...Ward graduated in December 2021 with a degree in mechanical engineering and is currently pursuing a second degree in integrated business from the College of Business Administration. He was named to the Order of Pegasus last spring, earning the most prestigious honor for any UCF student. Ward also was a dean's list selection for the spring 2022 semester. A fifth-year player from Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Ward was named to the 2022 Mannelly Award P reseason Watch List and was also a finalist for the award last season. Ward earned third-team All-America honors in 2021 from Phil Steele and also was selected first-team All-American Athletic Conference by Steele. UCF long snapper Alex Ward was named a preseason third-team All-American by the Phil Steele College Football Preview Magazine, which hits stores next week. While Ward is the only Knight to earn preseason All-American honors, he's one of 16 Knights named to Phil Steele's preseason all-AAC team. Ward, who was a finalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award for national long snapper of the year last season, is joined by wide receiver Ryan O'Keefe and offensive lineman Lokahi Pauole as first-team all-conference s elections. UCF and Cincinnati led the way with 16 players on the list, followed by Houston (11), ECU (11), Memphis (11), SMU (10), South Florida (10), Tulane (9), Tulsa (9), Navy (3) and Temple (2). - Orlando Sentinel
