Chris Ferguson threw a pair of touchdown passes and Towson held off Stony Brook for a 21-14 victory on Saturday. The Tigers (2-3, 1-1 Colonial Athletic Conference) were about to pull away when Ferguson completed a 7-yard pass to Jason Epps, but Epps fumb led the ball just before crossing the goal line, turning the ball over to Stony Brook (1-5, 0-3). The Seawolves' Ty Son Lawton then broke loose on a 41-yard touchdown run on the ensuing series that capped the scoring with 7:32 to play. Stony Brook made i t to the Towson 22 on its final drive, but Sam Gyeni sacked Tyquell Fields on fourth-and-1 with eight seconds left. Ferguson completed 22 of 31 passes for 177 yards, and he threw a 7-yard touchdown pass each to Darian Street and Jabari Allen. Devin Matth ews had a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Chris Ferguson threw two touchdown passes that included a 73-yarder to Darian Street to lead Towson past cross-town rival Morgan State 31-0 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams. Ferguson was 20-of-33 passing for 269 yards. He threw an 8-yard T D pass to Jason Epps in the first quarter before connecting with Street to give the Tigers a 14-0 lead with 9:19 to play in the second quarter. Street finished with two catches for 91 yards.Devin Matthews bulled into the end zone from the 2 midway through the third quarter for the Tigers. Kobe Young's 1-yard TD run capped the scoring with 10:42 to play. Morgan State was held to just 142 yards of offense. Duce Taylor's 27-yard pass to David Adeleke got the Bears to the Towson 49 late in the third quarter, the first time Morgan State crossed midfield in the game. It was the first shutout since 2017 for Towson, which has won four straight in the series. The Towson University athletics department will not be playing an intercollegiate football schedule during the 2021 spring season. Towson football will now prepare for the traditional 2021 fall season. This decision was made in conjunction with Towson Un iversity student-athletes, coaches, department of athletics administrators and medical personnel. The football team will prepare to hold traditional spring practices to lower the risks of long-term injuries and get ready for the 2021 season. All precauti ons will be taken, including COVID screening for players, coaches and staff. With today's announcement, Towson has opted out of the spring 2021 football schedule in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Towson football student-athletes will retain their year of eligibility per the NCAA. Abilene Christian, Campbell, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Houston Baptist, Old Dominion, Sacramento State and Stephen F. Austin have all opted out of a potential spring football season in 2021. - Towson Football
