Henry Colombi, Marshall, Player News

By this point in his college football career, Henry Colombi has learned to adjust to his surroundings. Now in his sixth fall camp as a college quarterback, and playing at his third school in the same time period, "new" isn't exactly new for the most expe rienced quarterback on Marshall's roster. "You can clearly see he's got a veteran presence. Nothing rattles him, nothing gets him off-kilter," Marshall head coach Charles Huff said. "He's been through a college camp before, and even though it's not this one, you kind of know the routine." As a freshman, Colombi had to adjust to college football in general. After three years at Utah State, he then had to reorient himself when he transferred to Texas Tech. So when he made the decision to transfer to Marsh all, he knew, at least in a general sense, what to expect as he settled in with new teammates and coaches around him. - Charleston Gazette

Henry Colombi's college football career will end in Huntington, capping a long journey that has come with several twists and turns ahead of what will ultimately serve as his sixth and final year as a college quarterback. Colombi, a transfer from Texas Te ch University, where he spent two seasons, has officially joined the Marshall football program after receiving his diploma from Texas Tech earlier this month. Prior to his time with the Red Raiders, Colombi spent three seasons at Utah State. While he wasn't able to participate in Marshall football's spring practice and scrimmage game, Colombi was able to observe at a distance, getting a feel for the offense just through watching practice throughout the spring. Now he's officially a part of the Thu ndering Herd and is eager to hit the ground running. "It feels great," Colombi said. "I think being here in the spring has definitely helped me and helped the team build our chemistry, just being around the guys and letting them know what being a leader is. It feels good to finally be a officially part of the team and get rolling." Colombi is, by far, the most experienced quarterback on the Marshall roster, joining a group of five freshman who participated in spring ball and 2022 recruit Cole Pennington arriving this summer. In two years with the Red Raiders, Colombi appeared in 13 games and started nine. - Charleston Gazette

Henry Colombi threw for a touchdown, ran for another as Texas Tech had four rushing touchdowns in a 41-14 win over Kansas on Saturday afternoon. Colombi was 14-for-20 passing for 124 yards and added 35 rushing yards while Jason Bean was 11-for-21 passing for 80 yards and one interception for Kansas. "I think it was important for us to come out here and execute today and we did it on both sides of the ball," Colombi said. "Every position played well today and I think we spread the ball around." Texas Tec h (5-2, 2-2 Big 12 Conference) had three rushing touchdowns - by Colombi, Erik Ezukanma and Myles Price to lead 24-0 at halftime.Donovan Smith added a rushing touchdown in the third quarter. "Proud of guys for coming on the road and playing a very disciplined football game," Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells said. "I think the key was starting fast and jumped out and played well on both sides." The past two seasons combined, this matchup had been decided by a total of six points. Texas Tech showed this year there's still a big difference between the programs. The Raiders held Kansas to 20 passing yards and only four first downs in the first half. Texas Tech had 438 yards with 244 of those coming on the ground. Sarodorick Thompson ran for 83 yards and Ezukanma had 76 receiving yards. - Texas Tech/AP College Football

The score was tied, Texas Tech was about to take over deep in its own territory with time running down in the fourth quarter, and quarterback Henry Colombi had one thing to say to running back SaRodorick Thompson. "I turned to SaRodorick and I said, "Thi s is why I play college football," Colombi said. "It's for moments like these." Colombi drove the Red Raiders 70 yards to set up Jonathan Garibay's 32-yard field goal with 18 seconds left for a 23-20 victory over West Virginia on Saturday. Garibay had th ree field goals in all and Thompson had two short touchdown runs for Texas Tech (4-1, 1-1 Big 12), which bounced back from a 70-35 loss at Texas. "We wanted to capitalize on our opportunities this week," Colombi said. "We had a great week of practice. An d I'm real proud of the guys." Despite missing numerous starters, including key offensive playmakers, the Red Raiders beat the Mountaineers (2-3, 0-2) for the third straight time, all when using a backup quarterback.Colombi staked Texas Tech to a 17-0 lead, then watched West Virginia come back. The Mountaineers were driving for a potential go-ahead score. On third-and-goal from the Texas Tech 6, Jarret Doege's pass toward an open Leddie Brown sailed out of the end zone, forcing a field goal with 4:34 left to tie the game at 20-20. "To kind of bend and then definitely not break, that was huge," Texas Tech coach Matt Wells said. Colombi had plenty of time left. He threw 42 yards to Kaylon Geiger to put Texas Tech at the West Virginia 38. Thompson then ran 16 and 13 yards on the next two plays to put the Red Raiders in range for the winning field goal. West Virginia wasn't able to get past midfield on its final drive. - Texas Tech/AP College Football

It appears Utah State's football program won't have five scholarship quarterbacks on its 2020 roster after all. That's because Henry Colombi has elected to enter the transfer portal, a decision that was first reported Wednesday afternoon by a couple of d ifferent people, including Brian Phillips of ustateaggies.com. Colombi was USU's second-string signal caller during the 2018 and 2019 campaigns and was the program's clear-cut favorite to replace first-round NFL draft pick Jordan Love this upcoming seaso n - at least prior to this week. The news of Colombi's decision came two days after the Aggies officially announced former University of Utah quarterback Jason Shelley had been added to the 2020 roster. Should Colombi indeed transfer, the Aggies wi ll be without an athlete who appeared in 13 games during his time in Logan. The native of Hollywood, Florida, completed 76.8 percent of his passes (53 of 69) for 460 yards and two touchdowns, vs. one interception. He also rushed for 139 yards and a pair of scores. Colombi mostly saw mop-up action, but helped Utah State blow out Hawaii as a redshirt freshman in 2018. - Herald Journal Tribune
