Jakari Robinson, Bowling Green, Player News

Former Cincinnati offensive lineman Jakari Robinson has committed to Memphis football. Robinson entered the transfer portal on March 1 after starting 24 games at center the past three seasons. He started the first three games in 2020 but didn't start again until the Peach Bowl against Georgia. He started all 14 games in 2019 as Cincinnati reached the AAC Championship game where the Bearcats lost to Memphis. He initially committed to Arkansas State but de-committed on Tuesday. His decommitment came the same day after the AAC eliminated its intraconference transfer policy forcing athletes to sit out a year if they transferred between member schools He'll be a graduate transfer and has two years of eligibility remaining. The NCAA is expected to soon approve a one-time transfer allowing players to be immediately eligible after leaving a program. - Memphis Commercial Appeal

As University of Cincinnati men's basketball coach John Brannen continues to sort through who's left in his locker room, Bearcats football coach Luke Fickell also has been forced to take inventory of his roster this offseason. Like Brannen, who had six of his players enter the transfer portal last week, Fickell has had his issues of players transferring, as center Jakari Robinson earlier this month became the latest UC football player to enter the portal. Robinson, who started 24 games during his Cincinnati career, entered the portal as a graduate transfer, joining backup quarterback Ben Bryant, wide receiver Jayshon Jackson and others. "I think it's (the diminished amount of in-person contact due to the global pandemic) been tough on us as coaches and I think it's been a lot harder on these 18- to 22-year-olds," Fickell said on Monday. "I think that piles onto the issues that the guys leaving in the basketball program or even that are leaving in the football program. It's made it a lot more difficult." - Cincinnati Enquirer

2019 PRESEASON RIMINGTON TROPHY CANDIDATE: Jakari Robinson, Cincinnati,...Thrust into the lineup due to injury in the seventh game of the 2018 season, Robinson responded with solid line play as the Bearcats achieved the 11-win plateau for only the third time in school history.

Robinson played in eight total games with six starts and was part of an offensive line which set a school record with 3,113 rushing yards, surpassing a mark set in 1970. He spent all of spring practice working as the first-team center and looks to continue his solid relief performance in 2018 in a new starting role. - Cincinnati Football
