 Oliver Martin, Nebraska, Player News

Oliver Martin is due for a break - the kind of break that doesn't cut short a season due to injuries, the kind of break that gives him a consistent quarterback. Martin already got a break in drawing Mickey Joseph as a receivers coach; Joseph has made it a mission to build up Martin's confidence. If No. 89 stays healthy, and focused, he could have 50 catches in 2022. - Lincoln Journal Star

On Tuesday, Nebraska rolled out the top 10 results on the roster in that department and said via social media that it will work its way through releasing the top performers in other disciplines of the Performance Index and Strength Index Testing conducted at the end of the team's eight-week winter conditioning program. Nebraska head coach Scott Frost couldn't help but mention Oliver Martin's impressive vertical jump before spring ball even started. Then over the next five weeks, Martin, the walk-on transfer wide receiver from Iowa, proceeded to vault himself to what looks like a spot atop the depth chart in offensive coordinator Matt Lubick's position group. Martin, listed at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, had a 40-inch vertical jump. - Lincoln Journal Star

It's been a spring of positive reinforcement for Nebraska wide receiver Oliver Martin. Not that he's sought it out so much as that it's found him in myriad ways as he and his teammates progress through the midpoint of spring ball and toward May 1's Red-White Spring Game at Memorial Stadium. Martin, a transfer from Iowa and an Iowa City native, impressed coaches with the way he dove in over the second half of the 2020 season once he was ruled eligible. Even with modest numbers (five catches for 63 yards), he earned four starts and essentially played without having much time to learn the offense. Over the past couple of months, though, Martin has started to settle in and, by most accounts, stand out in what is shaping up to be a competitive wide receiver room. "We do one-on-ones just about every day and I don't think he's lost a rep of that," walk-on receiver Wyatt Liewer said of his teammate on Wednesday. "He looks really good." - Lincoln Journal Star

Oliver Martin is on the move again. The former Michigan wide receiver has transferred from Iowa to Nebraska, according to 247Sports. Martin, who entered the transfer portal earlier this month, is currently listed in the Cornhuskers' student directory and will reportedly be a walk-on. The Iowa City native was one of three four-star receivers Michigan signed in its 2017 class. He redshirted as a freshman before appearing in 13 games in 2018 in a reserve role. Martin caught 11 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown but transferred to Iowa after the season. - Ann Arbor News

Oliver Martin's transfer to Iowa and subsequent eligibility ruling was arguably the biggest Hawkeye football storyline of the 2019 offseason. One year later, the former 4-star wide receiver is on the move again. Martin has reportedly entered the transfer portal for the second time in as many years, according to reports from 247Sports and other outlets. The former Iowa City West standout ends his brief Hawkeye career with five catches for 28 yards and one touchdown. Following a heightened recruitment as one of the Midwest's top 2017 prospects, Martin hasn't found the same success in college. A Michigan commitment led to a redshirt season in 2017, followed by one active year in Ann Arbor and then a surprising transfer to Iowa. The thought was coming home would be a welcomed change for Martin. - Iowa City Press-Citizen

Michigan transfer receiver Oliver Martin has been cleared to play this season for Iowa, starting with Saturday's opener against Miami (Ohio). The 20th-ranked Hawkeyes said Wednesday that Martin has been approved for immediate eligibility by the NCAA and the Big Ten. Martin, a graduate of Iowa City West High, caught 11 passes for the Wolverines in 2018. But a change at offensive coordinator and a desire to return home led Martin to transfer to Iowa this summer. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said this week Martin would play if he was ruled eligible for this weekend's game. - AP College Football
