A gifted athlete as a child, Kemore Gamble excelled at sports like basketball, tracks and volleyball, but if things had been different, his world would have been saber blades, lunges and parries. "I did fencing, and there was a summer league every year," said Gamble. "I was good, but I would always lose to the same dude in the championship. Every time and the fourth year it happened, I said, 'I'm done doing this.'" Gamble sees a striking similarity between fencing and his current sport of football. "You try not to get hit," he said. The fifth-year tight end is making a new start after transferring from Florida to UCF this offseason, where he wraps up his final year of college eligibility.The 6-foot-4 Gamble entered the transfer portal on Jan. 12 with thoughts of possibly playing somewhere in the Big Ten or Big 12, but when it came down to making a final decision, he chose to play somewhere closer to his home in Miami. "I talked to my mom and she doesn't like to fly, so I wanted to find a place close enough so she could come to my final games," Gamble explained. "Then one of the UCF coaches hit my phone, asking me to come in for a visit. I came in, liked it and Gus Malzahn showed me how they planned to use me [in the offense]." - Orlando Sentin el

The 6-4, 243-pound redshirt sen ior started 12 games at tight end for Florida in 2021 and had one reception for 15 yards in the Gasparilla Bowl against UCF. Florida tight end Kemore Gamble, a self-described finesse player, is looking to add more physicality to his game this year. The redshirt senior now takes over for Kyle Pitts on a full-time basis after starting in his place against Georgia and four other games last season. Gamble credited the Mackey Award winner for helping him improve his route running. "I got some of my route running from (Pitts). How he runs routes, he's always using speed and he's using his length to his advantage," said Gamble, who added that he doesn't try to play like Pitts."Kyle Pitts is Kyle Pitts. There's only one Kyle Pitts and there's only one Kemore Gamble. He does things that he's good at and I do things that I'm good at." Gamble called himself "more of a finesse g uy" when asked about his strengths. He's also focused on improving the weaknesses in his game this spring. "I like to finesse people and I say my strength is the passing game," Gamble said. "I need to work on my running game still, getting more power, an d get tougher when I'm blocking. Pitts' return gives the Gators perhaps the most productive - and dangerous - tight end groups in college football. Pitts, Gamble and Zipperer have combined for 38 receptions for 656 yards and 13 touchdowns, which leads the nation for the position. All th ree were highly rated, four-star recruits coming out of high school. Pitts began to emerge that season, pulling ahead of the other two and showing signs that he had a chance to be special. Even with Pitts becoming THE guy at tight end, the other two deci ded to stick around - and they're now flashing big-time playmaking ability in games."I'm the type of guy that I don't want to get stuff easy," Gamble said Monday. "I always want to have competition around me. When (Pitts) got here, I was like, 'Hm m, this guy's talented, he's very athletic, I like that type of competition, so I ain't going to leave and I'll stick it out here and we can battle.' "My dad always taught me never run from competition, you've always got to sit down and face it and never just run. My dad and my step dad used to always tell me that. I was brought up hard and nothing comes easy." Maybe Pitts was in a similar situation a few weeks ago. Projected as a top-five draft pick this spring, Pitts could have opted out for the rest of the season after the big blow to the head he took in the Georgia game that concussed him and led to nose surgery. - Times Union
