 Devaughn Cooper, Syracuse, Player News

  12/26/22 - WR Devaughn CooperrSr/2023, Syracuse, 5-10, 184 (DS#167 WR) + More +

Syracuse football wide receiver Devaughn Cooper will play one final game in an Orange uniform. Cooper will play in the Pinstripe Bowl and then pursue an NFL career, he shared via Twitter on Saturday. Having played seven seasons of college football dating back to 2016, Cooper had no remaining eligibility. He made stops at Arizona and University of Texas-El Paso before settling at SU. Cooper has had 50 total career receptions so far with the Orange for a total of 575 yards and three touchdowns.

He'll be the most-senior receiver appearing in the Pinstripe Bowl for Syracuse after Courtney Jackson entered the transfer portal and landed at Arkansas State. Cooper is the fifth SU player to officially declare for the 2023 NFL Draft, joining teammates Chris Elmore, Garrett Williams, Sean Tucker and Matthew Bergeron. He is the only one in the group who will appear in SU's bowl game. - The Post-Standard

  08/06/22 - WR Devaughn CooperrSr/2023, Syracuse, 5-10, 184 (DS#167 WR) + More +

There's been a spotlight this preseason on how Syracuse football's offensive players are adjusting to quarterbacks and running back Sean Tucker are adjusting to new offensive coordinator Robert Anae's pass-heavy offensive scheme that he previously put on display at University of Virginia and BYU. Redshirt senior receiver Devaughn Cooper, heading into his seventh college season, said learning the terminology was the biggest test. "The coaches came in and worked with us slowly. Eased everything in," Cooper said. "I think the receivers are getting a hang of everything, and I think they're getting adjusted pretty good."

While 2022 will only be Cooper's second year at Syracuse, he is a seventh-year college football player. Cooper chose Arizona over Syracuse out of high school, making his way into the receiving rotation as a freshman before an injury forced him to redshirt. He spent two more seasons with the Wildcats before transferring to University of Texas-El Paso, where he redshirted in 2019 and played all eight games in 2020. Cooper transferred to Syracuse just in time for 2021 fall camp. - The Post Standard

Syracuse welcomed a new member of its wire receiver group this week in DeVaughn Cooper, who played previously at the University of Texas-El Paso. He has practiced with the team the past two days. Cooper's arrival at Syracuse was first reported by Stephen Bailey of 247Sports.com, who said that he arrives at Syracuse as a walk-on. Cooper was a three-star recruit who began his career at Arizona before shifting to UTEP. He finished last year with 10 receptions for 136 yards. He did have a 97-yard performance against Washington State during his freshman year at Arizona. - The Post-Standard
