Amare Jones, Georgia Southern, Player News

Cameron Carroll ran for two of Tulane's four rushing touchdowns and the Green Wave scored the final 21 points to beat South Alabama 27-24 on Saturday night. Amare Jones scored on a 16-yard run to cap the scoring with 3:18 to play. After the Jaguars went three-and-out, Tulane (1-0) took possession near midfield and three plays later brought out the punt team on fourth-and-14. South Alabama, however, was called for a personal foul when a defender tried to leap a blocker, giving the Green Wave a fresh set of downs with about 90 seconds left. Diego Guajardo's 49-yard field goal midway through the third quarter gave South Alabama (1-1) a 24-6 lead. Carroll scored on a 12-yard run about 2 1/2 minutes later and Keon Howard's 1-yard TD run on the second play of the fourth quarter trimmed Tulane's deficit to 24-19. Chance Lovertich passed for 249 yards and two touchdowns for the Jaguars. Kawaan Baker had seven receptions for 129 yards and a score. It was the first game played at South Alabama's new Hancock Whitney Stadium. - AP College Football

Amare Jones caught six passes for 104 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score, and Tulane beat Army 42-33 on Saturday to snap the Black Knights' 15-game home winning streak. Tulane (4-1), which hasn't started this well since going 4-1 in 1998, outgained Army 525-363 and outrushed the Black Knights 324-193, the fourth time this season the Green Wave have gone for 250 yards on the ground. The Green Wave have gone over 500 yards offensively in all but one game this season. Army's triple option was averaging 293.5 yards. Darius Bradwell scored on a 13-yard run midway through the third quarter to snap a 21-all tie, Jones scored on a 1-yard run early in the fourth and Cameron Carroll tacked on a 41-yard scamper to give the Green Wave a comfortable lead.

Army (3-2) staged a furious late rally with two scores in the final 3 minutes, Jabari Moore's 54-yard fumble return closing the gap to nine points with 2:36 left, but Tulane recovered an onside kick and held on. Tulane coach Willie Fritz and Army's Jeff Monken are well-schooled in the run game. Fritz succeeded Monken at Georgia Southern when Monken took the job at West Point six years ago, and the Green Wave excelled in this one. Army, which relies on ball control with its triple option, ran only 12 plays in the first quarter and trailed 21-7 early in the second, victimized repeatedly by big plays. - Tulane/AP College Football

Tyjae Spears, Amare Jones and Justin McMillan each accounted for a pair of touchdowns in Tulane's 58-6 rout of Missouri State on Saturday night. Jones finished with just five carries for 73 yards that included scoring runs of 3 and 57 yards on consecutive drives, and McMillan had a pair of short TD runs to end the second quarter as Tulane (2-1) scored on five of its first six possessions to build a 38-6 halftime lead. McMillan had nine carries for 49 yards and started under center, completing 13 of 16 passes for 122 yards. Spears caught one pass, an 88-yard touchdown from Keon Howard in the third quarter, and broke loose for a 52-yard touchdown run late in the game.

Tulane senior Darnell Mooney had five catches for 51 yards and surpassed 2,000 career yards receiving. Peyton Huslig was 14 of 25 for 128 yards passing and connected with D.J. Frost in the second quarter for the Bears (0-2). Huslig threw three interceptions including two to Larry Brooks. It was the first meeting between the schools. - AP College Football
