Rashie Hodge Jr., Arizona, Player News

Arizona added five linebackers via the NCAA transfer portal. The least heralded among them has made the strongest early impression. Rashie Hodge Jr., via New Mexico State, has been buzzing around the practice field this week. After recording three tackles for losses Thursday, including a sack, Hodge had an interception Friday (the aforementioned pick of Plummer). He also played perfect coverage on a sideline pass intended for tailback Michael Wiley that fell incomplete. "I saw a guy flash, make a play, flash, make a play," defensive line coach Ricky Hunley said. "One thing that we can't teach is speed, and he's got it." Hodge attended Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix and Glendale Community College before playing for NMSU in 2019. He started 11 of 12 games for the Aggies, recording 90 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss. The Aggies didn't play last season because of the pandemic. - Arizona Star News

The Arizona Wildcats continue to bring in-state products back home. The UA received a commitment Wednesday from linebacker Rashie Hodge Jr., who recorded 90 tackles at New Mexico State in 2019. Hodge attended Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, where he also played running back. He then spent the 2017 and '18 seasons at Glendale Community College. He had 57 tackles, including 10 stops for losses, and four interceptions for GCC in 2018. Hodge had 10 TFLs, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception for the Aggies in '19. NMSU didn't play football last year because of the pandemic. - Arizona Star News

Another key New Mexico State defender has entered the transfer portal. Aggies senior linebacker Rashie Hodge announced via Twitter that he has entered the transfer portal. "I have decided to enter the Transfer Portal, this is the best decision for me moving forward as a student athlete," Hodge said in his Twitter post. Hodge is the second projected starter in the front seven to enter the transfer portal after standout defensive lineman Roy Lopez left the program in July and quickly committed to Arizona.

Hodge, like Lopez, is an Arizona native who played junior college football at Glendale Community College. He was second on the team last season with 90 tackles and led the team with 10 tackles for loss with one interception, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his first year at strong side linebacker for the Aggies last season. Hodge, along with defensive lineman Myles Vigne, had originally opted out of the 2020 season, according to head coach Doug Martin. The Aggies will likely look to redshirt sophomore Taylor Milton, redshirt freshman Ja'Marvin Hartfield to replace Hodge at strong side linebacker. - Las Cruces Sun News

There are still far more questions than answers regarding the college football season, but as of now, teams around the nation are proceeding as they normally would. New Mexico State opened up fall camp on Friday night in Las Cruces, despite pleas from Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham not to play, and with three of the games on its 2020 schedule already canceled. The vast majority of the Aggies' roster was on the practice field for NMSU; however, three players have opted out of the season due to the pandemic. Head coach Doug Martin announced that star linebacker Rashie Hodge and defensive lineman Myles Vigne will sit out the season, joining defensive lineman Jomaious williams, who opted out last week. - KTSM 9 News
