Jonathan Garibay of Texas Tech kicked the longest field in the FBS this season with his school-record 62-yarder as time ran out beat Iowa State 41-38. The field goal was the longest in a game matching Big 12 teams and was Garibay's second-game winner this season. His 32-yarder with 18 seconds left gave the Red Raiders a 23-20 win over West Virginia. Garibay has made 12 straight field goals, one shy of the school record set by Clayton Hatfield in 2018. - AP College Football

NOV 15 BIG 12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jonathan Garibay, TTU, K, Sr.,...Garibay connected on a school-record 62-yard field goal as time expired to lift Texas Tech to a 41-38 victory over Iowa State. The field goal was one of two on the day for Garibay, who helped push the Red Raiders to their sixth win of the season to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2017. Both of his field goals came with no time on the clock as he previously connected on a 45-yarder to close the first half. His 62-yarder matched the second-longest field goal in Big 12 history and was the longest by an FBS kicker since 2019. It was only the third field goal of 62 yards or longer by an FBS kicker since 2000. The field goal was the longest by a conference kicker in a Big 12 game in league history as Garibay connected on the third game-winner of his career, including his second this season. He is now 12-for-12 on attempts this season, which is one shy of the Texas Tech record for most consecutive made field goals. - Big 12 Football

Jonathan Garibay was trying kicks beyond midfield before Texas Tech's game against Iowa State, but told coaches his range wasn't quite that far. They sent him out for one from the other side of the 50 anyway. Garibay kicked a 62-yard field goal as time expired, lifting the Red Raiders to a 41-38 victory over Iowa State on Saturday after they squandered a 17-point lead in the second half. Garibay sprinted across the field with his helmet off as fans stormed the field to celebrate the walk-off win after the longest field goal in FBS this season, surpassing a 60-yarder by Oregon State's Everett Hayes last week. The senior from California broke the Texas Tech record of 57 yards by Blade Adams against Texas A&M in 1977. The Cyclones had pulled even on Andrew Mevis' 29-yard kick with a minute remaining before redshirt freshman Donovan Smith, making his first career start, got the Red Raiders just far enough to set up Garibay, whose previous career long at Texas Tech was 48 yards.

Garibay has made 12 of 12 field goals this season. "When you get to a distance that far, it's really hard to give it that nice height," Garibay said. "You've kind of got to drive it. I thought the wind's not blowing, don't try to kill this ball. I've got to hit a clean ball and hopefully it goes all the way." The Red Raiders (6-4, 3-4 Big 12) won for the first time under interim coach Sonny Cumbie in his second game. Texas Tech earned bowl eligibility for the first time since 2017 the same week Joey McGuire was named to replace Matt Wells, who was fired in the middle of his third season. Breece Hall had three touchdowns, including two on the ground to extend his Iowa State and Big 12 records to 22 consecutive games with a rushing TD. But the Cyclones (6-4, 4-3) lost any realistic chance of playing in the Big 12 championship game after starting the season in the top 10. - Texas Tech/AP College Football

OCT 4 BIG 12 CO-SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jonathan Garibay, Texas Tech, K, Sr.,...Garibay connected on all three field goals he attempted, including the game-winner from 32 yards out in the closing seconds, to help push Texas Tech to its 23-20 victory at West Virginia. It marked the second game-winning field goal of Garibay's career as he previously helped the Red Raiders walk off with a victory against Baylor a year ago. The senior also found the uprights from 33 and 29 yards in the win, the first of which came in a hurried sequence to beat the clock to end the first half. Garibay is now 6-for-6 on field goal attempts this season as he is one of two Big 12 kickers without a miss. - Big 12 football

NOV 16 BIG 12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jonathan Garibay, PK, Jr., Texas Tech,...Garibay connected on four field goals, including the game-winner at the end of the game, to lead Texas Tech to a come-from-behind victory over Baylor. In his debut at TTU, he was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goal attempts after finding the uprights from 48, 28, 46 and 25 yards out. Garibay is just the sixth kicker in Big 12 history to make four field goals in his career debut as the primary field goal specialist and just the second to do so versus a conference opponent. - Big 12 football

  11/14/20 - K Jonathan GaribayrSr/2022, Texas Tech, 6-0, 217 (DS#3 K) + More +

Jonathan Garibay kicked a 25-yard field goal on the final play of the game to cap Texas Tech's second-half rally in a 24-23 win over Baylor on Saturday. It was the fourth field goal for Garibay in his first game as starting kicker for the Red Raiders (3-5, 2-5 Big 12). The junior transfer from Riverside City College, who this week was named by coach Matt Wells to replace struggling kicker Trey Wolff, also made kicks of 48, 28 and 46 yards. Wolff was 1-of-5 on field goals this season.

Tahj Brooks had two TD runs for Texas Tech and former starter Alan Bowman was back at quarterback in the second half, directing the comeback. Bowman had two 30-yard completions on the final drive after the Red Raiders took over at their own 14 after a punt with 2:14 to play. Jalen Pitre returned an interception for a touchdown for the second week in a row for Baylor (1-5, 1-5), which lost its fifth game in a row and hasn't won in Lubbock in three decades. The Bears have lost 10 in a row there since 1990, including all eight visits since the start of the Big 12 in 1996, in a series that was played at a neutral site for 10 years in a row until last season. - AP College Football
