 RaShaun Henry, Virginia, Player News

  08/30/20 - WR RaShaun HenryrSr/2022, Virginia, 6-2, 185 (DS#77 WR) + More +

Mendenhall recently announced that Dontayvion Wicks is out for the season with an injury. That leaves the Cavaliers in need of playmakers alongside senior wide receiver Terrell Jana. "The rest of the receiver position is performing really well," Mendenhall said. "We're just more thin than we have been, but Ra'Shaun Henry has been a really bright spot for us, so that's been a real positive." Henry, a transfer from St. Francis, grabbed 90 receptions a season ago at the FCS level. He's an athletic receiver with good speed and size - he's listed at 6-foot-3. He possesses the physical ability to earn playing time as an outside receiver.

Wide receivers coach Marques Hagans expects Henry to play, and he wouldn't be surprised to see Henry line up all over the field. "We'll definitely have him on the field," Hagans said. "When we break the huddle, the intent is to line him up at receiver and put him in as many different places as we can." Part of Henry's decision to come to UVa stemmed from wanting to prove he belongs at the Power 5 level. Given the lack of depth at receiver and Henry's talent, he's going to have a chance to prove he's a top-tier ACC talent. - Charlottesville Daily Progress

The Virginia football program has added graduate transfer Ra'Shaun Henry to its roster, the program announced Tuesday. Henry comes to Charlottesville after spending four seasons at the FCS level with St. Francis in Pennsylvania. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound wide receiver will have one year of eligibility remaining and can play immediately. Henry broke onto the scene in 2019 as a redshirt junior, tallying 90 receptions for 1,118 yards and nine touchdowns. He recorded 53 of those receptions in the team's final five games. Henry finished fifth among all FCS wide receivers in receptions last season.

St. Francis finished the 2019 season with a 6-6 record, ending the year with a 3-4 mark in Northeast Conference. The talent difference between FCS schools and Power 5 schools is noticeable, and the gap between the NEC and the ACC is big. Against one of the better FCS defenses last season in James Madison, Henry recorded five receptions for 60 yards. St. Francis as a team only completed 11 passes for 96 yards in the game, meaning Henry accounted for 62.5% of the team's receiving yards in the 44-7 loss. The Red Flash didn't face an FBS team in 2019. - Charlottesville Daily Progress

2019 ALL-NORTHEAST CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): WR Ra'Shaun Henry, Saint Francis, Jr.,...Redshirt junior Ra'Shaun Henry (Killeen, Texas /Copperas Cove) earned First Team honors after a dominant stretch of football starting in mid-October. Henry became just the third Saint Francis receiver to go over 1,000 yards in a season, finishing with a league-best 1,118 yards. His 90 receptions were 5th most among all FCS receivers, most in the NEC, and the second most in single-season program history.

Henry developed a strong rapport with first-year starting quarterback Jason Brown (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) as their chemistry blossomed from week-to-week. The Texas native caught seven of his nine touchdown passes over the final five games, exceeding 10 catches and 150 yards in four of his final five games. He was named the NEC's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after ending his season with 12 catches, 193 yards and a school-record tying three receiving touchdowns. - Saint Francis Football

NOV 25 NEC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: RA'SHAUN HENRY, SAINT FRANCIS, WR, Jr., 6-2, 195 lbs., Killeen, TX/Copperas Cove, WEEK 13 Stats: 12 receptions, 193 rec yards, 3 TD receptions,...Henry found the end zone three times while recording his fourth double-digit reception total of the last five games. Closing out his remarkable junior campaign in style, the NEC receiving leader caught 12 balls for 193 yards in a 35-21 road win over MEAC member Delaware State.

Securing his first career 1,000-yard receiving season, Henry recorded five first downs in addition to the three touchdowns. His three scoring plays were all more than 20 yards in length. The 6-foot02 Texan's 23-yard touchdown reception bumped SFU's lead to 14-0, capping a nine-play drive with 00:15 remaining in the opening quarter. Cashing in on prime field position after the defense forced a quick three-and-out, Henry found paydirt again on a 35-yard catch fewer than 2:00 later. Henry, who owns the top-three single-game performances by a NEC receiver this season, opened the second-half scoring with a 46-yard touchdown reception that made the score 35-0. - NEC Football
