2021 ALL-SOUTHERN CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): WR & KR Montrell Washington, Sr., Samford,...Washington led the nation this season in all-purpose yards per game, with an average of 176.2 all-purpose yards per game. He also led the Southern Conference in scoring at 9.8 points per game and in punt return average at 17.4 yards per return. He ranked second in the league in receiving yards per game at 73.9 and third in the SoCon in receptions per game at 5.5. Washington caught 60 passes for 813 yards and nine touchdowns. SEPT 6 SOCON FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Montrell Washington, Sr., WR/KR, Samford, Canton, Ga.,...Samford wide receiver/kick returner Montrell Washington returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown as part of an incredible all-around performa nce in the Bulldogs' 52-14 win over Tennessee Tech on Thursday. The senior from Canton, Georgia, had three punt returns for 69 yards (23 yards per return) and added 22 yards on a pair of kickoff returns (11 yards per return). Washington also caught seven passes for 128 yards and rushed once for 26 yards to total 245 all-purpose yards on the day, the second-most of the FCS week. Washington's play also netted him Stats Perform National Special Teams Player of the Week honors. He returned one punt for a 59-yard touchdown late in the first quarter of the team's game at Western Carolina, turning the momentum and helping lead the Bulldogs to a 31-13 win. For his efforts, Washington was named the Southern Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week. Washington also returned kickoffs for Sam ford, returning seven kicks for an average of 22.1 yards per return. With Samford trailing 10-0 in the first quarter, Washington returned a punt 59 yards for a touchdown, getting the Bulldogs on the board and swinging moment in the contest. The junior from Canton, Georgia, also returned one kick for 21 yards and caught an eight-yard pass to total 88 all-purpose yards on the afternoon. Washington's punt return for a score was just the second in the league this season.
