SEPT 13 MISSOURI VALLEY TOP PERFORMANCE: DB Michael Lawson, Western Illinois - Game two was a career night for Michael on Sept. 11 at Montana. The senior registered 13 tackles (eight solo), two interceptions, and a forced fumble. One of those interceptio ns resulted as a pick-six for a 75-yard touchdown. That particular interception return places ninth-best on the all-time single-game list. Michael is the first Leatherneck to return an interception for a touchdown since Quentin Moon did at North Dakota S tate in 2017 (43 yards). Michael is also the first player to record two interceptions since Eric Carrera ironically did the same against Montana in 2018. SEPT 6 MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL NOTABLE PERFORMANCE: DB Michael Lawson, Western Illinois - In the Leathernecks' season opener at Ball State (9/2), Michael finished with 14 tackles (9 solo) that tied for a personal career-best in a single game. He notched this same mark last season on Apr. 2 versus Youngstown State. Lawson also forced two fumbles and was credited for securing Western's first fumble recovery of the year. - Missouri Valley Football

Lawson tied for tops in the Southland in interceptions with five, a mark that also placed him eighth nationally. 2019 ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DB & PR Michael Lawson, Lamar, Jr., Patterson, Calif.,...Lawson overcame injuries to lead the Cardinals with 94 tackles from his safety position, including 61 solo stops. He also recorded 8.5 tackles fo r losses to go along with seven passes defended, a fumble forced and blocked kick. Lawson was key in helping the Cardinals secure an upset victory at Sam Houston State, in what turned out to be a defensive struggle. Lawson finished the game against the B earkats with a team-high 10 tackles and two interceptions. The first interception helped LU preserve a 7-7 score to force overtime on the road, and the second pick came in overtime to secure the victory. - Lamar Football

OCT 14 SOUTHLAND DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Michael Lawson, Lamar, Jr., Defensive Back, Patterson, Calif.,...Lawson tallied five solo and five assisted tackles and picked off two passes, including the game-sealing play in the third overtime. On Sam Ho uston State's second play, Lawson got in front of Ty Brock's pass at the 17-yard line. His first interception stopped the Bearkats at midfield with five minutes remaining in regulation.
