SEPT 9 LONE STAR DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Melik Owens, Midwestern State, SO, Business Administration, DE, Houston, Texas, Cypress Ridge HS,...Owens spearheaded a superior defensive team effort helping No. 20 Midwestern State claim a 33-7 win over FC S Northwestern State Saturday night at Turpin Stadium. The 6-3, 225-pound defensive end from Houston finished with seven tackles including 2.5 for loss and was in on two sacks as the Mustangs limited the Demons to 243 yards of total offense. Northwestern State was coming off of a 483-yard performance in their season opener against UT Martin. Owens combined with Nathaniel Nicolas for a sack midway through the third quarter for a loss of 9 yards before his solo sack for a loss of 7 more yards halted the s ame drive.
