Starting running back Jerrion Ealy missed the spring recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. Kiffin said Ealy is healthy and working with the team again, but also hinted at the idea that Ealy might be more than just a running back in 2021. "We're exc ited to have a fall with him where, now that we know more about him, having a season that we could maybe move him around and do some different things," Kiffin said. In a private session with Ole Miss beat writers, Kiffin also alluded to the possibility o f using Ealy as more of a pass-catcher. Starting running back Jerrion Ealy is one of four Ole Miss football players who coach Lane Kiffin does not expect to practice at all this spring because of injury. Ole Miss held its first spring practice Tuesday, after which Kiffin addressed the media fo r the first time since National Signing Day in February. Tight end Casey Kelly, safety Daylen Gill and defensive back Demarko Williams are the other three players who will be absent because of injuries. "Obviously there are a bunch of other guys who will be limited or will be back at some point," Kiffin said. "But we expect everybody else to be available at some point this spring."Ealy, who was Ole Miss' leading rusher in 2020, had offseason surgery that is keeping him off the football field and the baseball diamond this spring. Kiffin did not disclose what the injuries keeping the other players out are. Gill made 18 tackles in nine games last season and Kelly caught eight passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. Williams is a freshman who early en rolled from Westlake High School in Atlanta. Additionally, Ole Miss will be without quarterback John Rhys Plumlee this spring. 2020 ALL-SEC SECOND TEAM (COACHES): AP Jerrion Ealy, Ole Miss,...Ealy leads the Rebels in all rushing categories with 147 carries for 745 yards and nine touchdowns. Ealy has also hauled in 15 catches for 155 yards and one touchdown. He returned a second quarter kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown Saturday vs. LSU in Baton Rouge. It was the sixth 100-yard touchdown return in school history and longest since 2012. The Walnut Grove, Mississippi, native ranks fourth in the SEC with 132.1 all-purpose yards per game. Days before the first kickoff of the season, Ole Miss announced its official depth chart for the first and second string package of running backs, and it is filled with unexpected choices. At RB1, the team revealed that either sophomore Jerrion Ealy or f reshman Henry Parish Jr. will take the position. The entirety of the SEC is on notice because of Ealy's explosive talent from last season. The Jackson Prep alum performed in all 12 games last season, racking up 722 yards off of 104 carries for six touchd owns. Running back Jerrion Ealy was a revelation for Ole Miss as a freshman. He rushed for 722 yards and six touchdowns, caught 20 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown and returned 13 kickoffs for 317 yards and a score. Heading into his sophomore season, Ealy has been tabbed as one of the top all-purpose players in the SEC. Given new coach Lane Kiffin's history of coaching multi-talented running backs, Ealy said he's ready to join the ranks. "Reggie (Bush) was one of my favorite players when I was growing up, so I try to mimic Reggie a lot," Ealy said of Kiffin's former Heisman Trophy winning running back at USC. "We've got similar builds, same playing style. Knowing that Coach Kiffin was there with him and he was also at Alabama with Kenyan Drake and T.J. Y eldon and all of them, it was exciting to see that."A two-sport athlete, Ealy had his baseball season cut short in the spring when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Ealy said the pandemic afforded him his first time off in a decade, allowing him to confi dently say he's never felt in better shape than he does this fall. "A lot of people are looking at this as a curse, but it's a blessing for me," Ealy said. "It gave my body time to heal and get back to 100% because I've never been 100%. 2020 PRESEASON PAUL HORNUNG AWARD WATCH LIST: Jerrion Ealy, Ole Miss,... Ealy, who is also on the Doak Walker Award watch list for this season, finished second on the Rebels with 722 rushing yards on 104 attempts for a team-best 6.9 yards per carry. He a lso found the end zone six times on the ground, the second-most rushing touchdowns by an freshman in school history. Along with racking up three rushes for 50+ yards, the Walnut Grove, Mississippi, native was dangerous as a kickoff returner. Against Sout heastern Louisiana (Sept. 14, 2019), Ealy tallied 273 all-purpose yards with the help of his 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The all-purpose yards set an Ole Miss freshman record and was fourth-most by any Rebel. Jerrion Ealy and Snoop Conner each had big touchdown runs in the third quarter to help Mississippi pull away from Vanderbilt for a 31-6 win on Saturday night. Ole Miss (3-3, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) broke open a precarious 10-6 halftime lead with the scoring runs to open the initial two series of the second half. Ealy ran for a 78-yard touchdown and finished with 97 yards on the ground. Conner had 91 yards rushing that included an 84-yard TD run.Quarterback John Rhys Plumlee led Ole Miss with 165 yards rushing on 22 carries and scored on a 33-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Scottie Phillips added a 24-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Rebels, who finished with 512 yards of total offense that included 413 yards rushing , the highest SEC output since 1979 when the Rebels ran for 443 yards against Vanderbilt. Ryley Guay kicked field goals of 22 and 43 yards for Vanderbilt (1-4, 0-3) in the second quarter, but the Commodores never seriously threatened in the second half. Mississippi running back Jerrion Ealy had flashes of brilliance in preseason practice and in limited appearances in his first two games. The true freshman had that much-anticipated breakout performance Saturday in a 40-29 win over Southeastern Louisiana. Ealy turned in 273 all-purpose yards, including a 94-yard kickoff return touchdown and a 30-yard scoring run, as the Rebels (2-1) beat back a challenge from the FCS Lions (1-1), who had two drives finish inside Ole Miss territory in the final period. "M an, I'm so proud of Jerrion. Really proud," Ole Miss coach Matt Luke said. "He was the difference in the game with that kickoff return and run. That got us in front and we scrapped and clawed to get the win."Matt Corral finished 21 of 30 for 239 y ards and two touchdowns as well as directing a pair of time-consuming, fourth quarter field goal drives. Luke Logan connected on field goals of 22 and 32 yards that preserved the win. "On that kickoff return, I saw it open to the left and all I could thi nk was I better score," Ealy said.
