Jon Copeland passed for a season-best 376 yards with four touchdown passes as Incarnate Word pushed its win streak to four games with a 35-17 defeat of Lamar on Saturday. Copeland opened the game with a drive that lasted less than two minutes and ended when Ameer King took a pass down the right sideline 26 yards to score. Copeland, who has surpassed 300 yards passing in each of the last four games, added three more scoring strikes: 24 yards to Brady Rogers, 32 to Lamont Johnson and 32 to Mark Sullivan. The Cardinals, 25th ranked in the STATS FCS poll, are 5-2 overall, 4-1 Southland Conference and led 28-7 at halftime.

Lamar's (4-3, 2-3) Jordan Hoy completed 6 of 6 passes for 21 yards and ran for another 77 and a touchdown before leaving the game with an unspecified injury late in the first half. Jermaine Givens came on in relief, completing 4 of 5 passes for 66 yards with an interception. Shane Johnson replaced Givens on Lamar's second possession of the second half, leading a touchdown drive ending with Myles Wanza's 10-yard run. Johnson finished 9-for-18 passing for 124 yards and an interception. Incarnate Word, which led the FCS with 13 picks coming into the game, now has 15. - AP College Football

Lamont Johnson pulled in a 21-yard pass from Jon Copeland in the fourth quarter with the winning score as Incarnate Word defeated Southeastern Louisiana 27-21 Saturday night, downing a ranked opponent for the second week in a row. The game-clinching touchdown gave Incarnate Word (4-2, 3-1 Southland) a 27-14 lead with 9:23 remaining. Southeastern Louisiana (3-3, 2-2), ranked 23rd in the FCS coach's poll, cut that to 27-21 on a Marcus Cooper 16-yard run but the Lions suffered an interception and turned the ball over on downs for their final two possessions.

After being intercepted by Jaylon Jimmerson with five minutes left, Chason Virgil's pass on fourth-and-2 was broken up by Gerald Bowie II with 35 seconds remaining and Incarnate Word ran out the clock. Virgil threw for 337 yards and a TD but was picked off four times. Southeastern Louisiana committed six turnovers and Incarnate Word has forced turnovers in 18 straight games going back to the 2017 season. Isaiah Paul recovered a fumble and returned an interception 45 yards to give the Cardinals a 10-7 lead. Ashton Preston added two interceptions. - AP College Football

Jon Copeland threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns and Incarnate Word never trailed and held off Houston Baptist with a 38-36 win Saturday night. Carson Mohr's 31-yard field with 2:37 left in the third quarter proved invaluable for Incarnate Word (3-2, 2-1 Southland) as it gave the Cardinals a 38-30 lead. Bailey Zappe's 17-yard touchdown pass to Gamar Girdy Brito with 3:14 left brought Houston Baptist within 38-36. Zappe threw incomplete to Ben Ratzlaff and the 2-point conversion attempt failed. Incarnate Word picked up three first downs on the ensuing drive and time expired for the Huskies (4-2, 1-1).

Copeland competed 33 of 44 passing attempts while Zappe went 49 of 69 for 390 yards, three touchdowns but also threw two interceptions. The Cardinals' Kevin Brown had 104 yards rushing on 11 carries and Kam Williams had nine receptions for 101 yards and a score. For Houston Baptist, Jerreth Sterns had 18 catches for 136 yards and a touchdown while Girdy Brito returned three kickoffs for 127 yards - a 42.3-yard average - including an 87-yarder for a touchdown that tied the game at 7 with 11:48 left in the first quarter. - AP College Football

Keyondrick Philio ran for three touchdowns and Incarnate Word took an early lead and held it to beat Abilene Christian 31-24 on Saturday night. Jon Copeland threw for 170 yards for the Cardinals (2-2). Ameer King had 61 rushing yards and a score. Incarnate Word led 13-3 at halftime thanks to two scoring runs by Philio. King's short TD run early in the third quarter made it 20-3. But the Wildcats (2-3) answered on the following drive with a Luke Anthony touchdown pass and, following a Cardinals fumble on the next series, Anthony struck again to close to 20-17 with 3:42 left in the third.

Tre Richardson stopped the Wildcats surge with a 56-yard interception return. A Cardinals field goal four plays later pushed their advantage to 23-17 early in the fourth and Philio's third TD run made it 31-17. The Wildcats scored late in the fourth to close to 31-24 and were on the move in the final minute when Jaylon Jimmerson intercepted Anthony, sealing the Cardinals win. Anthony finished with 197 yards and two scores passing for the Wildcats. - AP College Football

The 2018 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year also threw for 515 yards against Lamar (Oct. 13, 2018).
