Burks has put together one of the finest seasons by a wide receiver in school history with 66 catches for 1,104 yards and 11 touchdowns. The combined stats for the next five highest pass catchers (Tyson Morris, Trey Knox, Warren Thompson, Blake Kern and De'Vion Warren) for the Razorbacks this season: 84 receptions for 1,121 yards and 7 touchdowns. Pittman said he had a discussion with Burks about his draft status, which Pittman said was late first round to early second round. "When he made his decision, I supported it and, not that he needed it, but I supported him," Pittman said. Pittman added he thinks Burks' draft stock will rise after he participates in the NFL Scouting Combine and goes through workouts. Burks hasn't been a one-man show in the Razo rback receiving ranks, but the 6-3, 225-pounder has been a force that no one else could equal. "I feel like he'll do great things in the NFL and stuff like that," Morris said. "But I feel like it's the next man up mentality. I have to step up. The young guys have to step up. Everybody has to step up and play together as a quota." - Northwest Arkansas Times

University of Arkansas receiver Treylon Burks announced Wednesday he has elected to forego his senior season to declare for the NFL Draft and will not play in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1. Burks' decision came on the day he was selected by a media panel as a first-team All-SEC choice, backing up the same position he held in voting by SEC coaches released Tuesday. Burks, projected as a first-round NFL Draft pick by many analysts, just completed one of the most productive seasons for an Arkansas receiver wi th 66 catches for 1,104 yards and 11 touchdowns, plus another 112 rushing yards and a touchdown. The 6-3, 225-pound junior from Warren said he spent many restless nights discussing his options with his family and praying. "Other than representing my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, there has been no greater honor in my life than representing Warren and the entire State of Arkansas these past three years," Burks wrote on social media. "I may be leaving the state, but Arkansas will always be home and I will never stop calling those Hogs." - Northwest Arkansas Times

Arkansas coach Sam Pittman indicated defensive tackle John Ridgeway is doubtful and receiver Treylon Burks is questionable for the Razorbacks' season opener against Rice on Saturday. Burks, an All-SEC pick last season when he caught 51 passes for 820 yar ds and 7 touchdowns, has not practiced in several days with an undisclosed injury. Pittman said Burks has "progressed" since the weekend, but said his injury is day to day. "I think we're going to progress him a little bit today, a little bit more tomorr ow and then we'll see what happens," Pittman said. "I had a good talk with (associate director of sports medicine) Dave Polanski this morning about it. We're going to play him if he's ready, and if he's not, we're not. I really don't know if he's going t o play or not; I have no idea. I think it's going to depend on probably the next two days, how he goes. I don't want to play him Saturday if he hasn't practiced at all, either." - Northwest Arkansas Times

Six Arkansas football players were included on the preseason All-SEC team voted on by coaches. Receiver Treylon Burks, center Ricky Stromberg and linebacker Grant Morgan were voted to the first team, while safety Jalen Catalon was voted to the second tea m, and offensive linemen Myron Cunningham and Ty Clary were voted to the third team. All of the players except Clary were voted to the media's preseason All-SEC team last month. Burks was Arkansas' only first-team pick by media. Morgan was a first-team p ick and Burks and Catalon were voted to the second team by coaches at the end of 2020. With six players, Arkansas had more individuals represented on the All-SEC preseason team than eight other programs, which appears to signal the Razorbacks' talent is catching up with the rest of the league. Arkansas broke a 20-game SEC losing streak and went 3-7 against an all-conference schedule a year ago. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Arkansas Coach Sam Pittman said Thursday that senior receiver De'Vion Warren was doing well this summer, and he touted Warren's value to the team at the expense of graduate transfer receiver Mike Woods, who left for Oklahoma. "I'm excited about De'Vion," Pittman said. "Certainly before he was injured I thought he was the second-best receiver we had, so we're excited to get him back." Treylon Burks was clearly the Hogs go-to receiver last year with 51 receptions for 820 yards and 7 touchdowns in 8 full g ames. Woods was second with 32 catches for 619 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Warren had 15 receptions for 278 yards and 3 touchdowns in 6 full games.Pittman thought the Razorbacks would be healthy heading into camp, saying "we'll be pretty much fu ll flow, full go." He also added that players who enter the transfer portal at Arkansas should consider themselves gone. "Once you go to the transfer portal at the University of Arkansas, you sure ain't transferring back in," he said. "I'm pretty sure, i f I asked [wife] Jamie, if I go to transfer for a week and figure it out would she let me come back, I'm sure the answer would be no. That's the way we feel about that, too." - Northwest Arkansas Times

The Razorbacks have one now comparable to all of those in junior wide receiver Treylon Burks. The 6-3, 223-pound Warren native has rare speed and leaping ability with matching ball skills. Admission is free for Saturday's scrimmage, set to begin at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds Razorback Stadium. That No. 16 will be running routes in live work might be enough to warrant a few dollars as you come through the gates. He's that good. It was worth a call to Dicus, equally fun to watch during his days. Dicus set the school record with 118 catches in his three years, a record that stood for 25 years before it was broken by J.J. Meadors.Dicus admires Burks. "He has a lot of talent, no question," Dicus said. "And I think there is hidden talent that we haven't s een yet. Not all of it has been tapped yet. "I think that's the challenge for his new wide receiver coach (Kenny Guiton) and the offensive coordinator (Kendal Briles). He's only as good as the number of times they get him the ball." Obviously, Dicus know s teams will double cover Burks. They did a lot in his first two seasons when Burks caught 29 and 49 passes. He averaged 16.4 yards per catch in each of his first two seasons. There were plenty of highlight-reel catches last year, especially against Ole Miss (11 catches, 137 yards) and Missouri (10-206). Those two games had everyone scrambling in the record books for where Burks ranked. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Treylon Burks' acrobatic fourth-quarter touchdown catch was SportsCenter's No. 1 play of the day, but the sophomore was key throughout the drive. With Arkansas leading 20-14 and momentum seeming to turn in Ole Miss' favor, the Razorbacks began the drive at their 30-yard line with 12:06 remaining. Burks rushed for 11 and 5 yards on the first two plays of the drive. Running back Rakeem Boyd converted a third down, and two plays later Burks caught a pass for 16 yards on a second-and-9 that moved the ball t o the Ole Miss 19. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Treylon Burks made a catch worthy of Sundays when it mattered most Saturday. Facing third-and-1 at the Ole Miss 7, Arkansas quarterback Feleipe Franks tossed a fade ball in to the corner of the end zone in a spot only Burks could get it. And he did. Burk s left his feet, extended his right arm, snagged Franks' pass with only his right hand and tapped his right foot down mere inches from the sideline. The touchdown gave Arkansas a 26-14 lead with 7:36 remaining and essentially sealed Arkansas' 33-21 victo ry over the Rebels - the Razorbacks' first SEC home win since 2016. Burks knew it would stand. Following a brief review, it did. "The catch, it didn't surprise me," said Burks, a Warren native. "I do it in practice. It's just something I work on and some thing I want to get better at. "I had to sit out last week against Auburn. I just came back confident and I knew my teammates had confidence in me, so I just went in and played for them and the Arkansas Razorback nation."Asked where the touchdown ranks among the many he has scored throughout his successful career, Burks said he isn't into that kind of thing. "Who knows," he said. "I'm just glad we scored and we got a win." One week after traveling but not being healthy enough to play in the contr oversial 30-28 loss to the Tigers because of a first-half knee injury suffered at Mississippi State the week before, Burks set career highs in receptions (11) and receiving yards (137). - Northwest Arkansas Times

When Arkansas coach Sam Pittman was asked about Treylon Burks on Saturday, he found himself saying one word over and over: special. Burks was just that in the Razorbacks' season opener against No. 4 Georgia, locking in career highs in catches (7) and rec eiving yards (102) while tallying his first career touchdown on a 49-yard strike from quarterback Feleipe Franks. In the loss, Burks became the first Arkansas receiver to total 100-plus receiving yards since Mike Woods against San Jose State last Septemb er, and third Warren native to do so against the Bulldogs. "He's a really good player," Pittman said. "We certainly have to continue to try to get the ball to him more. He can win contested catches and he's a special player, special kid, special person, special player. We have to continue to run him a little bit more and get the ball to him more. "The touchdown grab he made and scored on was an exceptional play. I think (there will be more) to come, but we've got to target him more." - Northwest Arkansa s Times

University of Arkansas sophomore Treylon Burks gained 866 yards receiving, rushing and returning kickoffs and punts in 11 games last season, but he never got in the end zone. Burks finally got his first touchdown as a Razorback on Saturday when No. 4 Geo rgia beat Arkansas 37-10 at Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Senior quarterback Feleipe Franks connected with Burks for a 49-yard touchdown pass to give Arkansas a 7-0 lead with 8:48 left in the first quarter. University of Arkansas cornerback Montaric Brown has gotten a good look at some of the nation's best college receivers the last few years. He thinks at least one of the Razorbacks' own wideouts can stack up with the best in the land, not only in the coll ege game, but beyond. Treylon Burks is just a sophomore for the Razorbacks, but the 6-3, 232-pounder showed speed, strong physical traits, great hands and a tackle-breaking affinity last year. Asked which Arkansas wideout was toughest to cover, Brown sai d, "I'd say Treylon Burks. He's a big-frame guy. "I call him Julio Jones, because he has a big frame. He can do anything. He has speed, power, and he can just run by you. Even though he's like 230, he can run by you. He's got all the weapons. He's built like an NFL receiver. He can do anything."Jones, the former Alabama star, is a 6-3, 220 pounder who has 797 catches for 12,125 yards and 57 touchdowns in 10 years with the Atlanta Falcons, already Hall of Fame-like numbers. Burks, a product of War ren High School, couldn't help but grin when a reporter brought up Brown's comparison. "Busta, that's my guy," Burks said. "We compete every day, and he calls me 'Julio.' That's my favorite receiver." Burks said he worked on his speed, slimming down a bi t, running more precise routes and understanding defenses better during the offseason. - Northwest Arkansas Times

Treylon Burks showed numerous flashes of brilliance during an impressive freshman season at Arkansas. His athleticism and sure hands in the passing game coupled with great elusiveness on special teams, particularly on punt return, landed him on the SEC A ll-Freshman Team in 2019. He and running back Rakeem Boyd, who rushed for 1,133 yards and eight touchdowns, highlighted a season filled with offensive struggles. Although he did not tally a touchdown last fall, his production provided plenty of optimism and promise for the future at the receiver position. In 2020, Burks can cement himself as Arkansas' go-to target and one of the best pass catchers in a league littered with talented skill players. "He's talented enough to be a No. 1 receiver on several t eams, in my opinion," Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said Monday during a Zoom conference with reporters. "We've got to find ways to get the ball to him, whether it's throwing it to him, running him out of the backfield, throwing quick swings to him. "He's a big, fast receiver that we need to get touches to. He's earned that, in my opinion, through the walkthroughs, through his offseason workouts and (Day 1 of fall camp)." - Northwest Arkansas Times
