Breece Hall rushed for 242 yards and scored four touchdowns Friday night in what may be his final game at Jack Trice Stadium, propelling Iowa State to 48-14 win over Texas Christian and setting an NCAA FBS record for consecutive games with a rushing touc hdown. Hall darted 39 yards for a score in the second quarter, giving him 24 consecutive games with at least one rushing touchdown. He shared the record with Bill Burnett, who scored a rushing TD in 23 straight games for Arkansas (1968-70). Hall, a junio r who could be a high pick in next spring's NFL draft, is the Cyclones all-time career scoring leader with 336 points and 56 touchdowns. He highlighted his dominance against TCU with an 80-yard touchdown run in the third quarter Friday, putting Iowa Stat e (7-5, 5-4 Big 12) ahead 34-7.His fourth touchdown came on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter. Hall carried the ball 18 times (averaging 13.4 yards per rush) and caught two passes for 39 yards and a touchdown. TCU (5-7, 3-6) gave up a total of 27 9 rushing yards. Cyclones coach Matt Campbell shed a few tears during a pregame tribute for 23 seniors, and that emotion seemed to help Iowa State jump to an early lead. After driving for a field goal on the game's opening possession, the Cyclones went u p 10-0 when Jirehl Brock ran 40 yards for a touchdown. Hall's record-setting touchdown extended the margin to 17-0 with 3:35 left in the second quarter. TCU pulled within 17-7 at halftime on Max Duggan's 47-yard touchdown pass to Blair Conwright with 1:3 3 left before the break. Hall's second touchdown came on a 22-yard pass from Brock Purdy early in the third quarter, giving the Cyclones a 24-7 advantage. - Iowa State/AP College Football

The running of Breece Hall and a little razzle-dazzle propelled Iowa State to a 30-7 victory over Texas at Jack Trice Stadium on Saturday. Hall rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns as the Cyclones (6-3, 4-2 Big 12) earned their third straight win over the Longhorn and became bowl eligible for the fifth consecutive season. It was the sixth time in seven games Hall has gone of the 100-yard mark. "I may be biased," receiver Xavier Hutchinson said, "but to me Breece is the best back in college football." Hutchinson caught eight passes for Iowa State, totaling 96 yards. He also threw a 49-yard touchdown pass. Texas (4-5, 2-4) suffered its fourth straight loss, the Longhorns' worst skid since dropping four in a row in 2010.The Cyclones trailed 7-3 at halftime, but raced to the lead when Hall darted 47 yards for a touchdown on Iowa State's first possession of the third quarter. Hall was held to just 17 rushing yards in the first half. "I knew before the game it wasn't going to be easy," Hall said, "so I had to be patient." Hutchinson made the score 17-7 when he took a lateral from quarterback Brock Purdy and threw a pass to Tarique Milton for the score. The former high school quarterback said Iowa State only worked on the play a few times in pract ice. "All I'm saying is, if they ever need a quarterback, I'm the guy," Hutchinson said with a smile. "I'm just happy he caught it. I'm happy I didn't mess up the play." A little more than 3 minutes later, Hall put the Cyclones up 24-7 on a 2-yard touchd own run. Purdy finished 27-of-38 passing for 252 yards. Tight end Charlie Kolar caught five passes for 72 yards. - Iowa State/AP College Football

Breece Hall rushed for 197 yards and two touchdowns and Brock Purdy was an efficient 22-of-25 for 208 yards and a score as Iowa State downed Kansas State 33-20 Saturday night. The Cyclones gained 210 yards on the ground and 208 yards through the air. "It always starts with (balance) for us," Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said, "the ability to create a running game somehow, someway, and the ability to use our passing game to open up the running game. "So much credit goes to our quarterback tonight. The way he played with poise, I really thought he did a phenomenal job of distributing the football." The Wildcats had won 15 of the last 16 games in Manhattan. The teams split the last four meetings in the series, with each team winning two home games. Prio r to that, K-State had won 10 straight games in the series.K-State quarterback Skylar Thompson was 15-of-23 for 206 yards and two touchdowns and one interception. Hall has now rushed for a touchdown in 18 straight games, a Big 12 record and the fi fth longest streak in FBS since 1996. Hall rushed 75 yards for a touchdown on the opening play of the game, finding a hole on the right side of the offensive line and racing untouched until the 10-yard line, where he eluded a defender diving for his feet . "It was blocked perfectly," Hall said. "I didn't really have to do much but find a hole and run. I knew it was going to be a big run, because the crowd was real loud but it got quiet suddenly. I knew I would score the touchdown." - Iowa State/AP Colleg e Football

The conversation about Breece Hall's status as a Heisman contender is probably over - he is one. He may not be the favorite, but after rushing for two touchdowns and 133 yards, which put him over 1,000 for the season, while also catching two passes for 2 7 yards and a touchdown, he should be included in just about every discussion of what players might be invited (virtually) as finalists to New York City next month. The sophomore, who entered the game leading the country in per-game rushing yards n ot only has fantastic numbers on the season, but he's been doing it in consistent fashion. He's rushed for over 100 yards in every game this season. That's what makes his trajectory for the final three regular-season games easier to predict - all he does is put up numbers. Hall seems likely to continue on that path, but to get that finalist invite, Iowa State will probably need to stay on the path it hopes to walk - which leads to Arlington and the Big 12 title game. - Des Moines Register

When Iowa State running back Breece Hall discusses his role, he first mentions his blocking in pass protection, being a dependable check-down receiver and communicating with teammates. Everybody else wants to talk about what he does as a ball carrier. Ha ll is averaging 150.2 yards per game and will go into the 17th-ranked Cyclones' home game against Baylor on Saturday night as the nation's leading rusher among players who have appeared in a minimum of three games. The sophomore from Wichita, Kansas, has gone over 100 yards in all six games, his four runs of at least 50 yards are most in the country and his 11 rushing touchdowns rank second."I wouldn't say it's a surprise," Hall said recently. "But I've been happy with some of the results and how our team has been playing a little bit." The Cyclones (4-2, 4-1) are in a three-way tie for first in the Big 12 and looking to reach the conference championship game for the first time. Hall emerged at midseason as a freshman last year and has gone for 100 yards in 10 of his 14 starts. "Do I think Breece is an elite football player? I do. Do I think he can continue to grow and get better? I do," coach Matt Campbell said. "There's nobody else I'd rather play with than Breece." - Fresno Bee

It took until the postgame Zoom conference before Breece Hall was stopped cold. He was without an answer when asked if he knew who was Iowa State's last football player with 100-plus rushing yards in six consecutive games. When told it was Darren Davis, of the famous Davis family, in 1999, he shook his head, then proceeded into a dissertation about why he's rushed for 185 yards on consecutive Saturdays. "It's a testament not only for me but the offense," he said after the No. 22 Cyclones overwhelmed win less Kansas 52-22 Saturday. "Everybody's doing a good job blocking. It's really a team achievement, not an individual thing. Running the ball - we've been successful these last two games. It's been fun." Hall enters next Saturday's game against Baylor at Jack Trice Stadium with 801 rushing yards on 137 carries. He entered Saturday's game as the nation's top rusher and he topped the Big 12, and you know what? He's not performing at his best. That's the word from Matt Campbell, who won't be totally satisfied until his Cyclones not just play in the Big 12 Conference title game but wins the Big 12 title game. "He's running the ball outstanding," Campbell said after Saturday's 30-point win. "Last week, there were some other things, as well as he ran t he ball, that I really challenged him to be better in, and he did a really good job working on those things." Hall isn't the best player to carry an Iowa State football. No one will do what Troy Davis did, although his brother, Darren, gave it a darn goo d shot. That's just an observation, of course. "The statistics are one thing," Campbell said. "I want our guys to become the best version of themselves as they can be. Breece still has that in there. As great as a player he is, there's still more out the re. There's still another level. "I look forward watching for that to continue to grow and develop. The expectations continue to grow, and my expectations are really high." - Ames Tribune

Breece Hall matched a career high with 185 yards rushing and two touchdowns, Brock Purdy threw two TD passes and had another score on the ground and No. 23 Iowa State coasted to a 52-22 victory over winless Kansas on Saturday. Purdy finished with 239 yar ds passing and Kene Nwangwu also hit the end zone for the Cyclones (4-2, 4-1 Big 12), who bounced back from a tough loss to No. 6 Oklahoma State by beating the Jayhawks for the sixth straight time. The only bright spot for Kansas (0-6, 0-5) came on a 100 -yard kickoff return by Kenny Logan in the second half.Otherwise, quarterback Jalon Daniels and the rest of the offense was woefully inept, the defense gave up gobs of yards on the ground and the special teams missed a short field goal and nearly surrendered a kick-return touchdown. Daniels was just 16 of 29 for 165 yards with an interception and a touchdown run. The first three TDs of the game were scored into a brisk wind out of the south, but the Cyclones finally took control going the other w ay at the end of the first half. They converted four consecutive third downs, three of them through the air, and the last a short touchdown toss from Purdy to Charlie Kolar that made it 20-7 at the break. Hall already had 89 yards rushing by that point. Kansas had just 15 yards rushing as a team. - Iowa State/AP College Football

Breece Hall came into the game averaging 132 yards rushing and two touchdowns per game. Against Texas Tech, the Iowa State sophomore carried 27 times for 135 yards and two TDs. "From the view on the sideline, I can tell you it seemed like we weren't hitt ing him until he was in the second level," Wells said, "which tells me their offensive line did a nice job of blocking up front, getting up to second-level linebackers. And it seemed like he was always running downhill today." Breece Hall is magical. If the Big 12's top rusher didn't make a statement with 154 rushing yards against Oklahoma, he did it with his fourth 100-yard rushing game in a row Saturday. The sophomore had 108 yards in the first half of the ABC-televised game and 135 for the game, as Kene Nwangwu got most of the second-half carries. Hall was almost unstoppable running through the line. He ran well around the end. He leaped over silly-looking tacklers. If there's something he can't do, then please inform me. - Des Moines Register

Sophomore running back Breece Hall was named the Big 12 offensive player of the week after rushing for 139 yards and two touchdowns against the Sooners. It came a week after a 155-yard, three-touchdown performance against TCU. "Breece had the opportunity to find some creases," Campbell said, "and the great thing about Breece is he's got great vision. His vision can allow him maybe to take a four or five or six yard run and create that into maybe a 20 or 30 yard run. "Credit there is all around, and cert ainly Breece has a unique ability to do really special things with the football when he can find creases."Hall's continued emergence has allowed the Cyclone offense to rely less on quarterback Brock Purdy. The Cyclones have run the ball 112 times while passing it 97 through three games. "Finding balance has been big for us," Campbell said. "When we've been at our best, balance has been the key to success. When we have been off-kilter one way or another, I really don't know if that's the best foot ball we can play. "Finding that balance within a game, finding that balance between the run game and the pass game, I really do think is critical for us becoming the best version of ourselves we can be." - Ames Tribune

The thought entering the season was that quarterback Brock Purdy would be the centerpiece of Iowa State's offense. Breece Hall is changing that assumption. The sophomore running back went for over 100 yards for the third-straight game and was the Cyclone s' most consistent offensive option. After three touchdowns and 155 yards last week at TCU, Hall is establishing himself as one of the Big 12's premier offensive weapons. When the Cyclones had some of their highest-stakes moments against the Sooners, the y leaned on Hall. - Des Moines Register

It was another milestone win for Matt Campbell's rising program at Iowa State. For Oklahoma, it was another crushing loss. Breece Hall scored the go-ahead touchdown on an 8-yard run with 4:06 left and Isheem Young intercepted Spencer Rattler's pass in th e end zone on No. 18 Oklahoma's final drive, giving Iowa State a 37-30 victory Saturday night. The Sooners (1-2, 0-2 Big 12), beaten at home by Kansas State last week, dropped back-to-back regular-season games for the first time since 1999. They lost in Ames for the first time since 1960. "It was a great feeling to pull a W out and make history," Young said. The Cyclones (2-1, 2-0) wore down the Sooners with the running of Hall, who rushed for 139 yards. Iowa State's Brock Purdy passed for 254 yar ds and had a 2-yard touchdown run to tie it at 30. "It's our senior class," said Campbell, Iowa State's fifth-year coach. "We've got 16 seniors who came here on a dream that we someday could turn Iowa State football around. They came here at 3-9 and beli eved in us and believed in our vision." The win was celebrated by a crowd of 13,724 at Jack Trice Stadium. No fans were allowed for the Sept. 12 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette. - Iowa State/AP College Football

Who leads Big 12 rushers after two games? Yep. Hall's 257 yards on 38 carries is tops, followed by West Virginia's Leddie Brown's 227 yards. That means absolutely nothing right now, except in Iowa State's case, it means Hall has continued where he left o ff last season. Campbell was critical of his No. 1 tailback after the opening for losing a fumble and almost losing another. There were blocking problems, as well, but Saturday was different. "Breece is super talented," Campbell said after the TCU game. "He took some of the areas where he needed to be better from the first week and got better. Areas like the run game, an area like blocking people and an area like running the ball. It takes time, You saw some really good growth against what we know is an elite run defense." - Des Moines Register

In essentially just eight games last season, Hall rushed for 897 yards on 186 carries. Breaking that down, the true freshman averaged 21.0 yards in the first four games, and 101.6 yards during the final eight. Now that he's figured out college life and b ig-time football, he'll get a full dose of whatever the schedule permits. The acclimation process of being a true freshman is over. "Breece is maybe one of the most gifted, true running backs that I've had the opportunity to be around," coach Matt Campbe ll said last week. "He's got very similar qualities, as far as skills, to David Montgomery and Kareem Hunt."Montgomery, who dazzled ISU fans with 2,925 yards during three seasons between 2016-18, is the starter for the Chicago Bears. Hunt, who Cam pbell coached at Toledo, plays for the Cleveland Browns. "What allowed Breece to take a step forward was maturity," Campbell said. "It's hard as a true freshman to step on campus and know what the expectations and standards to live by day-in and day-out are. "As he matured through the season with those expectations, that God-given ability he had really started to show through. "He made a huge impact the second half of the season. He's got a bright future." - Ames Tribune

Freshman Breece Hall rushed for 132 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Iowa State to a 38-14 victory over West Virginia on Saturday night. Brock Purdy threw for one TD and ran for another for the Cyclones (4-2, 2-1 Big 12), who held the Mountainee rs (3-3, 1-2) scoreless in the second half. West Virginia quarterback Austin Kendall was hit hard while attempting a pass during the Mountaineers' first series. He did not return and was replaced by backup Jack Allison.Hall scored on a pair of 1-y ard runs and also had a 12-yard TD. He might have given the Cyclones the dependable option at running back they'd been looking for ever since star David Montgomery departed. Hall entered the game fifth on the team with 84 rushing yards on 18 carries. The 205-pound Hall is the third different running back to lead the Cyclones in rushing this season and the first to eclipse 100 yards. Purdy had 102 yards a week ago against TCU. Johnnie Lang started Saturday's game and had four carries for 11 yards before giving way to Hall. - Iowa State/AP College Football
