Kingsley Jonathan was the first overall pick in the Canadian Football League draft on Tuesday, taken by the Montreal Alouettes. Jonathan played five seasons at Syracuse, recording 101 tackles, 15 sacks and three forced fumbles. In 2021, he had three sack s against Boston College, tied for the eighth-most single-game sacks in school history in a single game. At his pro day on March 31, Jonathan ran a 4.76 40-yard dash, jumped 10 feet on the broad jump and recorded 28 bench press reps.In 2021, he ap peared in all 12 games for SU, starting one. He had 20 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. In 2020, Jonathan recorded 32 tackles (25 solo), 5.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, a forced fumble, four quarterback hurries and three pass deflections. He was a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy both years, an honor awarded to a college football player with the best combination of academics, community service and on-field performance. - The Daily Orange

Syracuse defensive end Kingsley Jonathan was named a First Team Academic All-American on Monday, the only football player in the ACC to earn the honor. The award is handed out annually by the College Sports Information Directors of America, honoring play ers who exhibit a combination of both athletic and academic achievement. He is Syracuse's first honoree since tight end Cam McPherson won the award in 2016, and one of just 16 in program history. Jonathan had 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and 32 tack les last year, his fourth playing for the Orange. He has maintained a 3.71 grade-point average while majoring in information management and technology. Jonathan has also posted a grade-point average of at least 3.5 in every semester, while being involved in a variety of off-field initiatives. - The Post-Standard

2020 ACC JIM TATUM AWARD WINNER: Syracuse senior defensive end Kingsley Jonathan has been named the recipient of the 2020 Jim Tatum Award, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced. The award is given annually in memory of the late Jim Tatum to the top sen ior student-athlete among the league's football players. Tatum, a two-time ACC Coach of the Year, coached in the 1950s at both Maryland and North Carolina and believed strongly in the concept of the student-athlete. Jonathan has compiled a career 3.729 G PA while majoring in information studies. The Baltimore senior is a three-time ACC All-Academic Team member and a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection.A semifinalist for the 2020 Campbell Trophy and Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award, Jonathan represents Syracuse on the ACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has posted a GPA of at least 3.5 every semester of his college academic career. Starting each of Syracuse's 11 games this fall, Jonathan recorded 32 tackles (25 solo). He posted 5.5 tackles for loss, including three quarterback sacks, while breaking up three passes. 2020 WUERFFEL TROPHY PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Kingsley Jonathan, Syracuse, senior, defensive line,...An information and technology major in Syracuse University's iSchool, Jonathan earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors and was picked to the All-ACC Acad emic Team last season. He is a member of the Syracuse Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Board and he is in the second year of a two-year term as one of the ACC's three representatives with voting privileges under the Division I autonomy process. Jonathan's community involvement includes participation in the 2019 Syracuse University OttoTHON Dance Marathon, which raised more than $200,000 for the Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital. He's volunteered at the annual Boys & Girls Club Field Day at M anley Field House and he is the founder of Hoodie Drive, a program he started in 2019 to collect hooded sweatshirts for less fortunate members of the Central New York community during the winter. - Syracuse Football
