No. 15 UTSA's undefeated season ended in a blowout as North Texas running backs DeAndre Torrey and Ikaika Ragsdale combined for five touchdowns in a 45-23 rout of the Roadrunners on Saturday. Quarterback Frank Harris had two of UTSA's three lost fumbles among six overall before sitting the second half at UNT's rain-soaked Apogee Stadium, a 10-year-old facility where a Top 25 team had never played. UTSA (11-1, 7-1 Conference USA), which never started with more than five consecutive wins in the program's first nine seasons, is still hosting the conference championship game Friday night against either Western Kentucky or Marshall. No. 1 Georgia and fourth-ranked Cincinnati are the remaining undefeated FBS teams. The Roadrunners, ranked 10th national ly in rushing defense, had given up six touchdowns on the ground all season. The Mean Green (6-6, 5-3) matched that late in the third quarter of their fifth consecutive victory that followed a six-game losing streak as UNT earned bowl eligibility. Ragsda le, a redshirt freshman, had a career-high 146 yards and two touchdowns as North Texas' conference-leading rushing offense finished with 340 yards a week after UTSA allowed its previous season high of 220 in a last-second victory over UAB. Torrey's third and final TD run was a spectacular 19-yarder where he broke a tackle in the backfield and dashed between two more defenders while still behind the line. He finished with 108 yards, easily outplaying UTSA's Sincere McCormick (60 yards) in a matchup of tw o of the top 10 active career rushers in FBS. - North Texas/AP College Football

Ayo Adeyi had two touchdown runs from short yardage, including one in overtime to give North Texas a 30-24 victory over Rice on Saturday. Christian VanSickle missed a 46-yard field goal attempt for Rice (3-5, 2-2 Conference USA), which had the first poss ession on OT. Adeyi scored from the 1 on the ensuing series and North Texas (2-6, 1-3) ended a six-game losing streak. Isaiah Johnson's 6-yard TD run gave the Mean Green a 24-17 lead with 2:03 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Owls answered with Jake Constantine throwing a 12-yard touchdown pass to Cedric Patterson III with 16 seconds left. Jake Bailey's 36-yard diving catch on fourth-and-10, and a North Texas unsportsmanlike conduct penalty helped keep the drive alive. DeAndre Torrey also had a shor t touchdown run for the Mean Green. It was his 31st rushing touchdown of his career. Constantine was 16-of-30 passing for 242 yards and threw two touchdown passes. Bailey finished with 10 catches for 143 yards and a score. - North Texas/AP College Footba ll

One of the big questions at the beginning of fall practice every year for any college football team is if the offseason pronouncements of change show up when things go live. Do the players who change positions stick at their new spots? What about coaches filling new roles? What's transpired over the first couple of days of practice indicate most of those changes are here to stay. One of the interesting tweaks of the offseason was running back DeAndre Torrey seeing time in the slot. It's easy to see why UNT might want to try it out. Torrey is one of the Mean Green's most dynamic players with the ball in his hands. He enters his senior season ranked ninth in program history with 3,324 all-purpose yards. He's scored 27 touchdowns in his time with the Mean Green. Torrey was running drills with UNT's wide receivers today and looked good. The Mississippi native said earlier this fall that he was getting used to his new role. - Denton Record

North Texas running back DeAndre Torrey made quite the impression in his debut with the Mean Green back in 2018, when he returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown in a win over SMU. Returning kicks wasn't expected to be the way Torrey made an impact wi th the Mean Green. Torrey's time on special teams turned out to be just one of several ways he's contributed that also include eclipsing the 2,000-yard mark in career rushing yards and the 3,000-yard mark in all-purpose yards. Those varied talents landed Torrey on the watch list for the Paul Hornung Award on Thursday. There were 57 players included on the initial list of candidates for the honor that is presented to the most versatile player in college football each season. Torrey has scored 27 to uchdowns in his career with the Mean Green, including 23 rushing touchdowns, a total that ranks seventh in program history. He has three receiving touchdowns to go along with his kick return for a score. - Denton Record
