Blake Mazza, Southern Methodist, Player News

Washington State will be replacing not just one, but both of its all-conference specialists in 2021. Blake Mazza, who was WSU's placekicker from 2018-20, announced Wednesday he'd be leaving the Cougars in order to play one final college football season closer to his hometown of Plano, Texas. Mazza's redshirt sophomore season in 2019 went down as the best by a WSU kicker in school history. He made his first 18 field goals of the season, set a program record for field goal percentage by making 20 of 21 and went 55 of 57 on PATs. - Spokesman-Review

2020 PRESEASON LOU GROZA COLLEGIATE PLACE-KICKER AWARD WATCH LIST: Blake Mazza, Washington State,...A finalist for the Groza in 2019, Mazza connected on his first 18 field goal attempts to set a new Washington State record. Only a missed 48 yarder in late November separated him from 2012 Groza winner Cairo Santos' record for most field goals in a perfect season. His 95.2% conversion rate was by far the best by an FBS kicker with multiple 50-yard field goals. - Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award

2019 ALL-PAC-12 FIRST TEAM (COACHES): PK Blake Mazza, So., Washington State,...Mazza earns his first career All-Pac-12 accolade after a record setting redshirt-sophomore campaign, becoming the first Cougar kicker to earn first-team honors since Drew Dunning in 2003. The Lou Groza Award finalist, who was named the Midseason All-America Second Team by The Athletic, finished the regular season tied for the sixth-most points (112) by a kicker in the country and most in the Pac-12.

Mazza was No. 15 in the country with 52 PAT and tied for No. 10 in the country with a Pac-12-leading 20 made field goals. Mazza went 20-for-21 on field goal attempts after making his first 18 attempts of the season, the longest consecutive made field goal streak in program history. The Plano, Texas native owns a pair of 50-yard field goals (50 against New Mexico State, career-long 51-yarder at Utah), tied for sixth-most 50-yard kicks in the country. - Washington State Football

2019 LOU GROZA AWARD FINALIST: Blake Mazza of Washington State,...Mazza, a sophomore from Plano, Texas, had made all 18 of his field goal attempts until a miss this past week snapped the longest consecutive field goal streak in Washington State history. Still, at 18-for-19, his 94.7% accuracy rate is easily the best by any FBS kicker with multiple field goals from over 50 yards. It also will almost certainly finish as the most accurate season in school history. He has made multiple field goals in seven games this year and converted at least 5 PATs in five games, helping to a season scoring total of 105, tied for 2nd in the country. - Palm Beach County Sports Commission
