 Denzel Okafor, Texas, Player News

  04/06/20 - OG Denzel OkaforrSr/2022, Texas, 6-3, 307 (DS#34 OG) + More +

Texas offensive lineman Denzel Okafor has withdrawn his name from the NCAA transfer portal and will stay with the Longhorns, according to a team spokesman. Okafor put his name into the portal in March, getting the opportunity to test his marketability with other schools. The junior from Lewisville is on track to graduate and would've been a grad transfer somewhere else. However, Okafor was likely to be a key rotation figure on the 2020 offensive line at UT. He's played in 39 career games with five starts. Any athlete who puts his or her name into the transfer portal is allowed to make contact with other schools about a potential scholarship. However, it's up to the athlete's current school to decide whether the athlete can stay on scholarship, if both sides work things out. - Austin American Statesman

  03/24/20 - OG Denzel OkaforrSr/2022, Texas, 6-3, 307 (DS#34 OG) + More +

Texas fifth-year offensive lineman Denzel Okafor could opt to finish his college career elsewhere after submitting his name into the transfer portal. A school official confirmed Okafor was now in the NCAA's transfer database as of Wednesday evening. A four-star guard out of Lewisville who signed in 2016, Okafor played in 39 games with five career starts. He started one game at right tackle last season, a 23-21 loss at Iowa State on Nov. 16, and contributed on special teams throughout the year.

His biggest impact came in 2017 as a sophomore. Okafor that season started the opener against Maryland then made three more starts throughout the year, Tom Herman's first as UT's coach. But the former All-American appeared in only one game as a junior and ended up redshirting in 2018. "This was a guy that, thank god for the new redshirt rule because he kind of wasted a year, if you will," Herman said last March. "I think he played 27 snaps as a true freshman. We were fortunate that rule came into place." - Houston Chronicle
