Ohio State tight end Jeremy Ruckert will attend Big Ten media days in place of star wide receiver Chris Olave, a team spokesman said Tuesday. Olave had been on an earlier list of Buckeyes players who were scheduled to attend media days, which is to be he ld in Indianapolis on Thursday and Friday. No specifics were given for the switch, though the spokesman said "all is good and there are no issues" with Olave. He participated in a photoshoot at Ohio State on Tuesday following a workout. Ruckert caught 13 passes for 151 yards and five touchdowns and was voted as an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection by the league's coaches in 2020 before opting to return for his senior season. - Columbus Dispatch

Tight end Jeremy Ruckert has proven to be a receiving threat in recent seasons at Ohio State. In returning for his senior season, he might see his involvement in the Buckeyes' passing game expand. Speaking with reporters on a Zoom call on Wednesday after noon, Ruckert said he has worked with the coaching staff in spring practice to add to his route tree, potentially increasing his role in the offense. "It's kind of the same stuff we've been doing," Ruckert said. "It's been in before, but we're really foc using on it a lot more now and getting more opportunities. I think the biggest thing going into this year is just trying to give us more opportunities in the passing game because we've proven that we can produce and help this team in any way, especially in the passing game." In last fall's pandemic-shortened season, Ruckert gave quarterback Justin Fields a big red-zone target. The 6-foot-5 tight end grabbed all five of his touchdown passes while the Buckeyes' offense sat inside the 20-yard line. They we re among 13 receptions for 151 yards in eight games. Jeremy Ruckert and Luke Farrell combined to give Ohio State football one of the best tight end tandems in the Big Ten in 2020, and arguably one of the best in the nation. Farrell is moving on, meaning Ruckert should dominate the tight end usage this fall . Yet as shown with him and Farrell the past three seasons, playing a slew of snaps will not necessarily result in an abundance of passing targets. Ruckert unquestionably enjoyed his best season in all facets in 2020, especially in terms of his blocking. He totaled only 13 receptions in eight games, but made the most of them with 151 yards and five touchdowns. Despite seemingly solid NFL potential, Ruckert opted to come back for his fourth season. Offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Kevin Wilson thinks Ruckert can improve as a receiver. He thinks Ohio State can get him the ball more. Will either actually happen in 2021? Tight end Jeremy Ruckert announced Monday he will return to Ohio State for his senior season rather than enter this spring's NFL draft.
