Alabama football center Chris Owens asked a question during Phidarian Mathis' media availability Thursday. But joining the media isn't on the forefront of Owens' mind for when he's done playing. Instead, he would like to run a professional football team. "I work really hard on public speaking and trying to answer questions correctly - interview questions, all sorts of stuff," Owens said. "But I'm not really too sure. I kind of wanna go toward the NFL GM route someday." For now, he's focused on getting t hrough this season and trying to get to the NFL.Owens is heading into his sixth season with the Crimson Tide. He joined in 2016, making him one of the oldest in the group. "I already have a gray hair in my beard," Owens said. "Any time somebody se es it, they're like, 'Oh, you've got some fuzz in your beard.' I'm like, 'Nah, that's gray hair.' But I get an old man, senior citizen, I get called a lot of names, but I'm kind of used to it at this point." - Montgomery Advertiser

Alabama football offensive lineman Chris Owens is taking advantage of the NCAA's COVID-19 eligibility waiver, returning for a second senior season in 2021. Owens was UA's most valuable backup on the offensive line in 2020, filling in for Evan Neal at rig ht tackle against Arkansas and for both College Football Playoff games at center. Owens also started five games at center in 2019 before an injury forced him out of the lineup, never to return as the starting center. He finished that season playing some as a tight end in specialty packages. - Montgomery Advertiser

Senior Chris Owens has been working at center after moving around to different offensive line positions in a mostly reserve role last fall. Owens explained the mental side of being the quarterback of the line at center. "You know, we've got to make the c alls," Owens said. "First things first, the job description of the center is to snap the ball, so we can't do anything if we don't have the ball. Coach (Steve) Sarkisian always says we can't score if we don't have it, so that's the No. 1 priority. Just a s far as making the calls, making sure we have everyone else on the same page along with getting yourself on the same page with everyone else. And then having to execute blocks and playing at a high level. It's a difficult job, but the coaches expect a l ot out of whoever is playing at center. So it's a job that has to get done, and we can't make any excuses for not getting it done. It's a lot of responsibility, but it's one that I welcome."Having Landon Dickerson back helps since he started at ce nter most of the year in 2019. "He has so much insight, even going back to his days back at Florida State," Owens said, "so having him around and being able to bring along some of the young guys and not just us two, but everyone on the O-line. Starter or not, everyone is looking out for everyone. So we all want everyone to be successful." - Birmingham News
