Eastern Michigan University senior punter Jake Julien (Barrie, Ontario-North Collegiate) has been named to the Ray Guy Award Watch List, which is presented annually to the nation's top punter. The announcement was made today, July 28, by the Augusta Spor ts Council. Julien, who earned the honor for the third time, is one of six Mid-American Conference punters named to the 51-man watch list. The candidates on the list incorporate a broad spectrum of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) punters. The 2021 watch list was compiled based on the 2021 Ray Guy Award Semifinalist List, the top 10 NCAA Punters from 2020, the 2020 All-Conference teams, the 2020 All-American Teams, the 2021 preseason all-conference teams and punters on the 2020 watchlist.Drafted N o. 31 overall by the Ottawa RedBlacks in the 2021 Canadian Football League Draft, Julien has built his special teams resume into one of the best in school history. He is tied with Rich Hanschu (1979-80) for first in the EMU record books with a 43.4-yard career punting average and ranks eighth in EMU history with 7,383 yards punting. Julien is the only punter in Eastern Michigan history to record two 70+ yard punts in his career. School) was taken No. 2 overall in the Canadian Football League's (CFL) Global Draft, another Eagle, senior punter Jake Julien (Barrie, Ontario-North Collegiate), was selected in the league's annual draft. Julien, EMU's current starting punter, was drafted No. 31 overall by the Ottawa RedBlacks.Since 1973, Eastern Michigan has had 20 players taken in the CFL Draft, including eigh t first round selections. Senior punter Jake Julien is in the midst of an outstanding career. Already in the EMU record books for his 43.8 yards per punt season average in 2019-20, the Barrie, Ontario native has been just as impressive this season. His most notable stat, however, is this: In 13 total punt attempts this year, opponents have returned for a total of -0.5 yards. A total of nine Eastern Michigan University football student-athletes were named Preseason All-MAC by Phil Steele's College Football Preview, the magazine announced this week. Senior punter Jake Julien (Barrie, Ontario-North Collegiate) collected All-MAC first team accolades, while junior lineman Sidy Sow (Bromont, Quebec-J-H Leclerc-Champlain Lennoxville) grabbed second team honors. Senior linebacker Terry Myrick (Austell, Ga.-Woodward Academy), junior kicker Chad Ryland (Lebanon, Pa.-Cedar Crest), and junior kick/punt returner Dylan Drummond (Cleveland, Ohio-Cuyahoga Heights) landed spots on the All-MAC third team. Julien, who ranks first in the EMU record books with a 43.8 season punting average, is the only punter in Eastern Michigan history to rec ord two 70+ yard punts in his career.
