After earning an invitation to rookie minicamp, former University of Hawaii receiver Jared Smart has signed a free agent deal with the NFL's Arizona Cardinals. Smart was not selected in April's 2022 NFL Draft but was one of a handful of players with Hawa ii ties to earn a minicamp invite. After a standout career at Laney College in California, Smart signed with the Rainbow Warriors prior to the 2019 season and immediately earned a starting spot. In his debut season with the 'Bows, he caught 87 passes for a total of 1,129 yards and five touchdowns. - Khon2.com

The University of Hawaii at Manoa has signed an athletic apparel deal with Adidas. In the 2021-2022 athletic season, Adidas will outfit the UH football team, as well as both basketball and volleyball teams. All other sports will continue to use current i nventory. Beginning in the 2022-2023 season, UH's pact with Adidas will be department-wide. 2020 PRESEASON BILETNIKOFF AWARD WATCH LIST: Jared Smart, Hawaii,...Last season, Smart was one of just four players on the roster to start every game and finished second on the team in receptions (87) and receiving yards (1,129). He led the team with fiv e 100-yard receiving games and ranked fifth in the Mountain West in both receptions per game (5.8) and receiving yards per game (75.3). The Dublin, Calif., native was one of just 16 players in program history to reach the 1,000-yard receiving mark in a s eason. Smart finished last season No. 2 in the Mountain West with 87 receptions and No. 3 with 1,129 yards, but fellow receiving threats Cedric Byrd II, JoJo Ward and Jason-Matthew Sharsh are gone and Hawaii has to replace McDonald, who was benched on multiple occasions last fall in favor of Chevan Cordeiro. Hawaii receiver Jared Smart has impressed teammates and coaches with his diligence on the practice field. For football prospects on Hawaii recruiting trips, a few of their favorite things are the food, beaches and more food. For wideout Jared Smart, it w as visiting the Hawaii football team's meeting room to Watch videos of the Rainbow Warriors' plays and strategies. "I wanted to learn more about that," Smart recalled of last December's trip. "I was going to spend more time (at UH) than in Waikiki. I wan ted to worry about the bigger things."Smart signed with the Warriors in December, enrolled at UH in January, and since then spent hours watching football videos and training with teammates. After impressing in the spring and summer, Smart has prac ticed as the No. 1 left wideout this training camp. "From Day 1, he knew what he wanted to do out here," quarterback Cole McDonald said. "I respect that. A lot of guys come out here with a lot of misconceptions of what Hawaii is. He came out here ready t o work.
